  1. When the Bridgewater breached almost two years ago it was quite entertaining watching the local farmers trying to deploy the stop planks. Some were rotten, some were swollen to a state that they would no longer fit into the slots. I witnessed one guy break his sledgehammer shaft trying to persuade the planks to fit. In addition to the stop planks quite a few builders bags were deployed. It was a good 24 hours before they managed to stem the flow to a satisfactory degree.
  2. Cheshire cat changed their profile photo
  3. The Lakeside Tavern closed permanently in June 2019 according to CAMRA
  4. If I remember correctly the Vasa design was OK until the King decided he wanted a third gun deck.
  5. A friend worked for a meter manufacturer, Schlumberger if I remember correctly. The various leccy companies coud have had a meter with a ratchet in it that prevented it from going backwards but none of them thought it worth the extra cost.
  6. Stingray, the subject of this thread used to moor next to me on the Coventry canal. At the time the owner's name was Marina.
  7. Not going to comment on the amount of hirings but when we were stuck at the top of bosley two weeks ago there were three heritage hire boats wh o had to abandon ship. What do you think they said to their friends and neighbours? Any chance of a refund as provided by network rail?
  8. I think the only answer is yes C&RT do. We moor on online moorings which are rented from CRT. The price inctreases according to how much comparable CRT moorings have increased. I have two issues with that. One is the unpublished cost of comparable moorings and the other is the level of occupancy. I have passed two online sites this year that have both been dire!
  9. The pumpout at Etruria had a notice on the door saying it was out of action.
  10. I've just arrived home after a dreadful cruise. Sticking on topic the T&M at Etruria is full. Coming south is variable, some pounds full others are significantly down. No rhyme or reason. Stoke south is good until you get to Meaford. Beyond that still variable. Pounds have been lowered below Weston to help with the repairing of the byewash at Hool Mill Lock but all in all cant see any reason to close the Caldon. Drove past Rudyard and it looks OK.
  11. Are they resedential moorings? According to the signage they are long term leisure moorings.
  12. How bizarre.
  13. Most is probably over egging it but certainly at least half. I don't remember the towpath being flooded on previous transits when all paddles were available.
  14. There's next to no chance of getting through in two days at the moment. Marple in particular is very slow with paddles chained up on most of the flight. We are heading south and have made it to Congleton. Even here the water is significantly down, probably 8 inches
  15. We are taking water down Bosley on Monday so with a bit of luck things should start to improve by Tuesday
  16. We are chomping at the. bit. The pounds were drained yesterday
