  1. Thanks to all for the great replies, mrsmelly- i did go fishing with a £1.99 mag net on a stick retrieved stick in no time at all, reinserted it back in the dipstick plug with a drop of bearing loctite and centrepoped it on the top...... Job done, gearbox saved....
  2. Thanks for help and hints, tho it did go a little off topic! Lol... Will make a new dipstick myself as I'm not spending 30 quid and both sites selling them say they're out of stock.... Still fishing for old one tho.
  3. Thanks.... we intend to go swimming for the part..... not good to leave it in there
  4. Hi, Ive asked in the wanted section for a replacement dipstick , as the center bit on mine has vanished ( inside the box I fear) does anyone have one they can measure the length of, as they seem hard to get so thought I could make a new one if I had finished length and distances for full and empty. Thanks Dibbo
  5. Thanks for the replies.....what I wanted to know was how long would it actually take to put a coat on our 60 foot hull
  6. Daft question. .... but how many hrs would you think it takes to paint a 60 foot hull?? Thanks
  7. Ours doesn't get hot, and is rarely turned off, generally only if it locks up or we switch power supply's (shore to inverter etc) or if away when the inverter is off. Didn't realise you could replace the hard drive, tho the Wife insists on not letting programmes build up, and if not watched within a week or so she deletes them. Perhaps the way to go is to keep the Humax ( it was a expensive when we bought it) and get the new TV and just see how we get on?
  8. Our Humax has been OK for the first few years, but just recently it's taken to deleting entire lists of programmes we set it to record. Also draws the same power as the TV , so isnt brilliant when we're away from shore supply as its like having two telly's on. Apparently it's a common fault with the Humax but as I said its been fine for the first few years.
  9. Hi All, We dont watch much telly but we're getting a new TV and thinking of getting rid of the Humax TV recorder box that keeps wiping itself clean, Midland C's advertise LED tv's by Cello and also Amazon do the same, with the ability to record onto a separate hard drive..... does anyone have one, or knowledge of how they work. Can you record in advance, set it to do whole series etc etc etc. Dibbo
  10. Don't want to sound stupid but who's CS?
  11. We have a 6kv versus Genny that we use to charge batteries via bat charger, heat water, run washing machine and tumble drier when we're away from mooring. Usual do all when She does a wash. So we do have back up and certainly the need for a 3.5kw inverter isn't huge. The supply cables in were warm, not hot, just warm, but there was no load shown on the panel.. just worried me that al was not well. The other issue is ££££'s as the combi is considerably more beer tokens than just an inverter
  12. Greetings. We have an older Sterling 3.5kw inverter and it's starting to play up. It switches off when theres no load, but has decided not to switch back on sometimes, or decides that the microwave ( on standby is enough to keep it in ) isn't enough and deposit out. Also the main big power cables into it get warm even though there's very little load( is this normal?) . All these faults are put right with a rattle, bang or a turn off and on again. Sooooo, we think we might need to change this soon , as live aboards we need something reasonably big, but do we get a Sterling combi( the big white rectangular thingy) and replace our battery charger ,which is of the same age, or do we just get a new inverter and save a few hundred quid? Thoughts and advice always welcome, also a good one to buy might help Dibbo
  13. So windows open, don't close the curtains, and have the fire going too? Will give it a go. The condensation is mainly window based. We don't get damp books etc.
  14. Most of the condensation is window based.... Sometimes running with water, though doubt if I soaked it all up it would be that much!. Tony we have 4x125 ahr batteries, but when at moorings we plug into the shore supply and have a Sterling clever( don't like the term intelligent) charger which is on all the while. Odly though we use more electric during the winter months, but put this down to more tumble dryer usage than lights etc
  15. Thanks, so probably not worth the effort for a 60 footer...
  16. Hi, has anyone got one of these? they are readily available on ebay and Amazon at not too bad a price, they are offering small ones, 10" in height , and I wonder if this would help the condensation situation . I have no objection to emptying the tank often, but the power consumption does worry me . The one I'm looking at is listed as 12v DC , 2 amps, so 24w's in total, Now never one to admit being thick, but its a long time since I went to school, but it then says "24W average power usage (1KWh per day)" so is the 24W's listed per hour? in which case 24W X 24 hrs is only 576W per day... So a two pronged attack here, are they worth buying and if they are how much power is it in real terms going to use?. We have a shore supply at the mooring and 4 X125 a/hr batteries, dont mind if it's just sitting there at night guzzling the moisture, but not if its a big expense.... Ta Dibbo
  17. Found what looks like a repalcememnt on ebay but its17.99 + postage. Have found a UK company that will dok them for 12.99 +postage. I don't mind that much price wise. If not def thin sheet and glue gun is the way to go
  18. Greetings all, We have a shoreline rr5511 wide. The trouble is the plastic trays are slowly breaking. This fridge is based on a common manufacturer that Shoreline converts to 12 v. The question has to be can I buy replacement trays? I've called Shoreline and felt I was given the run around a little is no one knew the answer, and a promise to call me back....which never happened. So over to you guys........

  20. Excellent info, thanks a lot
  21. All interesting stuff. Lots to look at. The idea of the double skin not doing its job is a big poss as i think The fit between the inner chimney and the collar and actual flue is poor to say the least. Also the good lady's habit of banking the fire up ....
  22. Thanks for info so far...we have as double skin chimney, a tall one too. Will try it with out coolie and see. It also gathers at the base between the collar and chimney... Fire tends to be reasdonably hot as only form of heating as such. Do agree with dmr as we are live-aboards.....
  23. Hi, probably an old one this but I cant find any reference to this....we have black tar running down the outside of our chimney from the fire. We burn excel nuggets and wood. The wood is supposed to be seasoned but you never can tell really. Its ruining the roof and paintwork. Anyone any ideas as to causes? Ta Dibbo
