  1. And then take the train up north to get back to the boat you've just bought!
  2. Going back to scaring off idiots banging on the boat, perhaps a recording of a large dog barking could be played? Have to think about how you could keep same handy, as dogs tend to be a bit quick off the mark when they hear unexpected noises, but it could be more effective than an alarm in a remote location.

  8. Looks as though it's liquid filled and BSS guidance says it should be filled off the boat.
  9. That makes more sense, although somewhat unusual for a narrowboat. I suppose it's an option for a boat with no gas, although, would you need to refill it on the towpath?
  10. Kind of a random question, but I was browsing the Duck last night, as I'm sure many not yet boat owners do, and I happened to notice that this owner fitout boat has a methane gas oven: https://narrowboats.apolloduck.co.uk/boat/liverpool-boats-for-sale/632717 So I searched on here but the only reference I could find was that people didn't put methane cookers on boats! Good idea, bad idea, just plain weird? And no, I'm not thinking of buying that boat, just being curious^^
  11. Fell into a wormhole looking at possible solutions for this and I reckon it could be worked if you used a wormery to speed up the process. You'd need enough space for a bucket, a designated oven tray for sterilising and the wormery, which would be less space than a pump out tank I'd guess? Of course, you'd have to be really keen to make it work or it would soon feel like too much faff!
  12. As an old hippy type that likes to attempt growing things, I'm quite interested in the idea of having a composting loo on a boat. I can see that it would work fine when part time boating with access to a land based compost bin, and I'll probably give it a try. Which toilet system do you have? Not a basic Floozy type as you mentioned that it has a fan. Does it use much electric? When CCing the composting part of the process would need a good bit more thought, and a bit of space, and probably require sterilising I should think?
  13. Haha, I hadn't seen any of this before, but he's certainly seen through their cute woolly disguise to the real sheep beneath!
  14. I presume they're mounted quite high if they use sheep as the little buggers will chew anything. My car has lost tyre valve caps and a reversing sensor to the neighbors' sheep and they've even managed to open chicken housing.
  15. Is that Isabella? I saw her when walking at Goytre a couple of weeks ago, but I think she was up for £20k. She didn't look terribly promising to a complete novice but I can't find her listing now so maybe someone bought her. Although her listing said last blacked in 1996 so maybe she sank...
