  1. Hi I have great service from Varta battery's but make sure they are not sealed. If you charge them hard they will need to be topped up. Have a look at 6V T 105, or US Battery's equivalent, I think these are the best. Alex

  3. I used these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOLDING-TABLE-LEG-SILVERSAND-650MM-caravan-motorhome-boat-horsebox-660SA-/130878715679 Much more stable and they fold flat to the top so you dont have to store the legs or drill holes in the floor. Alex

  5. Hi With only 6A & 8A fuses I should think every thing will be OK. They are very small fuses for a 12V system and if they are not blowing all should be OK. See http://www.cable-ratings.co.uk/ Boats are typically wired with 4mm single flex cable nominally rated at 25A. Simple formula is Amps = Watts / Volts . 60W bulb at 12V with be 5A. You need to read the wattage of your pumps etc to work out the Amps. Alex

  11. If they are in caravanetts there is overnight parking at Whaley Bridge (with services) and maybe at Bugsworth Basin. Alex
  12. Its because the bottom is to near the top - I'm surprised you didn't go aground, we did twice! Alex
  13. Barrus have a 110 amp driven with a single belt. Alex
  14. You might also find they can match the frame/mountings to another higher output alternator and simply fit your pulley onto it. If this your only alternator, you do need a bigger one, but it could be £150+. Repairs are around £50. Alex

  17. Over the years I've decided you only need fenders when you moor up for the night. Eventually I scrounged two 16" small motor cycle tires, hung in the appropriate place between boat and arm-co were pretty perfect. Go cart tires are also handy and they are also free. Alex

  19. I would check the diesel fuel filter(s) first, even if you just blow them clear, until you can buy some new ones. I would recommend greasing the stern gland in the morning before you set of. The stern gland will still be hot a night and the grease tend to melt and run out overnight. Ignore the sarcasm, some members get cabin crazy, with nothing else to entertain them. For gods sake always check your spelling! Alex

  21. If your new boat has brass mushroom vents I would advise two center ropes to avoid snagging them Alex
  22. Being Sheffield born and bred I know all those bridges from the basin. I had to walk over the one at 3.06 minutes everyday on my way to work as an apprentice electrician in 1964. All the bridges are still there including our famous 'acaduct' over Darnall Main Road. Great memories Thanks for posting Alex
  23. Is any body going to answer this poor guys query about Ariels (Spell checked - oriels) I have always used a standard (short) domestic aerial and I'm very happy with it. The down side is where to store it during the day. Alex
