  3. Does this also mean that caravans are vat free? Sorry slightly off topic. Surely if you have a tug and butty system you have to end up getting a mot (dont know boating terminology for it) for both boats and a BW license for both boats dont you? That would then mean your savings will be gone in a few years time?
  4. I dont know about a boats fuel tank but on a car the return fuel line doesnt always go to the bottom of the tank. As someone mentioned above both fuel pipes leave the tank at the top but the inlet pipe will have a pipe going to near the bottom of the tank inside. The return might not. I certainly know my tank doesnt have a pipe going to the bottom for the return line in my car. Would be worth having a switch in both lines though so if you do need to ever change something along that line you can isolate the fuel and reduce the fuel spillage and less time repriming the engine
  5. noooooo Keep the restoration going and repair the breach. It is a beautiful canal and the guys who do all the organising for the restoration of 14locks etc work so hard it would be a real shame to see it go under. I have also spent quiet a lot of time spending weeks and weekends down there restoring the area around 14 locks and lock 3.
  6. Hi all. This is my first post after joining tonight and joined as I found this topic very interesting. I do alot of restoration work on derelict canals and have worked in various lock chambers. I find them all a scary place to be. Walking along the bottom in waders is very difficult due to the silt. If the used locks have any silt in the bottom then falling in would probably mean that your feet will be buried into the silt and slow down the process of bobbing back up again. Also another factor to be taken into this original thread is was the lock being filled / emptied at the time of falling in? The water would easily suck a human body under water and even the strongest of swimmers would find it hard to swim back up again. All very interesting.
