    Foraging

We had a huge crop of blackberries this year from the bushes on our mooring. They were a couple of weeks early though. There is also a bountiful crop of sloes and damson in the hedgerows. Acorns are also in abundance; Not looked at any beech trees but wonder if this is classed as a mast year. Fungi I must admit doesn't seem quite so common this year. I suspect that much of the fruit and nuts relates to weather conditions earlier in the year whilst fungi is more related to current conditions.
  2. My ‘bed board’ is made from 2x1 slats with 2” gap. Made up into six roughly two foot square sections that can be lifted out individually to access the space underneath.
  3. When I moved to the Nantwich area in the mid-'80s, when things were a bit iffy, I thought that at least I am in a nice rural area that won't be of any interest to the Russians. Little did I know that there was a nuclear bunker just outside the town that was set up to be the seat of regional government in the event of nuclear war. Fully operational into the '90s I believe. They might have thought it was secret, but I bet there was a Russian ICBM with its location programmed in.

  9. Can't believe that the flue would be allowed to exit inside a fully enclosed canopy, whether it was permitted when the boat was built or not. Just think about it; someone having a shower while you are sat under the cover ...

  14. Aldi specified a SS calorifer and Hep2O pipe rather than copper for use with its 30xx boilers due to the aluminium internals. Not sure how significant it is. They did say it's not a problem having brass fittings with Plastic pipe. Does the antifreeze/anti corrosion additive make the water more conductive?
  15. The old Austin seven engines had a cast iron block with an aluminium crankcase. Also had aluminium bits like the water take off on the head and the water pump. These bits were certainly prone to corrosion, although I’m not sure the role of galvanic corrosion was fully understood.
  16. Don't we have to call them "stakeholders" now? Corporate bullshit that I refused to use when working. Just the same as I always referred to "customers" not "clients", who where dealt with by "salespeople" not "sales executives"
  17. And has probably taken a picture of you anyway. (same goes for a laptop or PC)
  18. We had a couple of folding beds from Ikea. Only £20 each - ok ten years ago. Although the mattress was only two inches thick, they were actually very comfortable as the wire base was a bit like a hammock. 2'6" wide, so two could be put up side by side and when folded were only 4" thick so were hung out of the way under the gunwale.

  21. A lot (most?) of calorifiers don’t have a NRV on the CW inlet.
