  1. I can vouch for that! My old victron I had to run a slow cooker to get it to spin. With my new one I have to charge my laptop or run the TV, the slow cooker trick did not work.
  2. Came of the Wey a couple of weeks ago. As a Visitor (21 day max visitor licence) you are not allowed to moor on the towpath over night and leave your boat unattended. So you will need to book into a marina. Unless of course you break down and have to go home for spares??? Thats not in the rules but must happen. We had a great time, stayed for three weeks.
  3. Thank you for the information. I will check that the governor and injector pump are adjusted correctly and report back. It may be a couple of weeks as we are presently creeping round north London to eventually get on the R Lee and Stort. If it's deep and wide I'll give it a blast! Bet it's the prop.
  4. My 2LW does not have an 'Advance retard device' fitted. I have not checked the timming marks but assume the engine is set in the retarded position as it starts so well. Would this have the effect of not letting the engine rev out under load? Do others with 2LW 's have the Advance Retard device fitted to their engines?
  5. So today returned to Thames. Warm engine, clear river, flat out and then pressed the cold start button. As suggested "There will certainly be some black smoke initially, but does the engine then settle down to a higher speed with no smoke?" Yes it did! I saw some smoke and the revs increased. To what I don't know as I can not see the taco from that side of engine. I only kept the button in for approx 30 sec as co-pilot not happy hanging on to the tiller at speed. What does this mean?
  6. I don't know if its true but drinking Whisky is supposed to deter them. What I can say is that it certainly helps! Its Friday so lets hope for more flies.
  7. I have some 12mm and some 14mm. Normally I just use the 12mm as they are shorter (6mtr) but down on the River Wey we are having to rope the front and back in the locks so using our 14mm 10mtr lines and what a pain they are. So heavy to throw up. If I was a richman I would swap them for 12mm 10 mtr asap. Our boat is 60 ft.
  8. Both fuel filters changed 140 hrs ago. I got excited when I said I would get the engine warm and flat out today The cold start test will probably have to wait a couple of weeks as we are now on the R Wey. They may not take kindly to me giving it a gob full and some (its very pleasant here). Two weeks time we should be back on the Thames and have a blast. I will report back then.
  9. I'll try the cold start button trick tomorrow and report back. Thanks to all for help. I know just enough about injection pumps to leave them well alone. But that does not stop me wondering what sort of adjustmenst are in there? When the pump was repaired two years ago the guy set it up with a dial gauge and adjusted what looked like upside down tappits. These were set to measurements (each slightly different) sent with the pump from the man that did the repair back at base. Is this the adjustment or are there others? Don't concern yourselves, I will not touch it. Graham ps Any books or internet sites that might help with my curiosity?
  10. Thanks for the replies.Yes, the Walsh's plate on the side of pump says 29 bhp and 1300rpm. I assume that the pump was set to this rating? Is it the pump that controls the revs then and not the governor? Whilst I would like more revs I would not describe the performance as terrible, just like a bit more. Need to Google compensated crowthers prop to see what one of these is. Out of gear and well warmed up it revs to over 1200 rpm
  11. My 2lw runs as sweet as a nut. Start easily and stops the waft of smoke after 10 -15 mins from cold. It has a 22 x 22 prop on a 2:1 gearbox. Just came up the Thames flat out at 860 rpm which was fine but nothing in reserve. No smoke from exhaust, no increase in water or oil temperature so not over loading engine. Last year on the Trent could of done with a bit more power/revs as we came to a crawl going towards Keadby lock against the in coming tide. Apart from fitting another prop or adjusting the one on the boat it there an adjustment that can be made to help? Don't want to fit another cylinder. Graham
  12. Same problem I had. I fitted a 28mm ball valve just before the cauliflower. Its manual and relies on me remembering. Fire working - valve open. Must remember to close it in March 2015. Works for me!

    Toffe Vodka

Toffee Vodka, made this and it will not be wasted, unlike me! very nice. Could not find the syrup in Lidls so used the Monin Caramel Syrup from Sainsburys. Still worked but perhaps a little more expensive at £3 for 250ml. Thank you for the suggestion, we will now have a go at the Christmas pud stuff.
  14. Mike made our board four years ago (ish). Very, very pleased.
  15. Its in Crick. first one past Edwards. Right at the back on the right hand side against the bank. (well it was on Sunday) Good to have a beer with you both TG & S
  16. If you lose oil you lose drive in a hydraulic gearbox. Well mine did! The oil seal leaked on the selector arm and dropped the oil in the bilge. it made it seem like the clutch was slipping and then gripping now and then.

    Sae 30 or.......

I use Rock Oil sae30 in my 2lw. I have now completed 1700hrs, still no oil used between 400hr oil changes. I am happy. I understand that straight grade oil keeps its qualities for longer than multi grades.
  18. Thanks for that info - should be able to more on the visitor mooring outside the Aldi then. It says not to moor if the water bus was due to arrive??
  19. Hi All Does any one know if the water bus still operates in the Shipley area. I cant find the time table so suspect it has stopped operating. Thank you
  20. Thanks both ,just rang CV Marine and its first 48hrs free then £10 a night. Hey ho a tenner it is then. Not bad really for city centre parking (trying to convince myself) graham
  21. Thank you Peter. Did you contact CV to stay a little longer or just keep quiet? Ideally I would like three nights. Graham
  22. I am thinking of going up to Victoria Quays but can not find how long the time limit is for the visitor moorings. I would like to stay three nights without the £25 charge that seems to be creeping in. Anybody know? Thanks in advance
  23. Mooring that did not make the Auction process. Top of Foxton Locks on the off side. Good luck to the man that has it but how CRT being open and honest.
  24. My Leece Neville does the same as yours. It almost seems like its wheezing. Replaced belts, sprayed with belt dressing, adjusted, all to no improvement. I took the end cover off had a look inside at the brushes blew some dust off and put the cover back. The noise stopped but after about 20hrs use is now back again.
  25. This £25 overstay charge has spread to Kilby Bridge. A couple of days ago both the 48hr and 14 day vm were empty apart from us, and we moved down two locks next day.
