  1. This is what put me off using google nest cams
  2. Though the increase is only 5% this year (on top of the 13% rise last year plus the yet to be announced annual rise for next year) the cc surcharge will increase to 25% in the coming years, some of the worry may be that the precedent will be set so further increases in the surcharge level may continue. Whilst many cc boaters will use the facilities more, this is not always the case. For example, if boater A travels 10 miles each week, using 10 locks that is only 500 miles and 500 locks a year, many summer boaters do much more than that every year Also most are probably, out of necessity, more frugal with water and rubbish. The other main point raised is that by charging a small percentage of boaters (who often are the least able to pay) a large increase raises less money than charging everyone a small increase. The licence dodgers and continuous moorers are my biggest bugbear, mainly because they often hog the best spots. Removing non payers would make people feel better but not raise any money and I have to admit I have no solution as to how this could be done easily.
  3. Thank you for the advice, we have just done the same. It was a really easy process for once.
  4. We are just doing the same journey in the opposite direction. Chose the Trent and Mersey for interesting bits. Just under Harecastle tunnel and happy with our choice so far. Time will tell if we made the best choice.
  5. Very interesting as when I spoke to CRT yesterday they told me no passages were permitted as there was no access to the safety tunnel
  6. Thanks for the info, it appears crt are trying to negotiate access but until then there are no tunnel passages so the Rochdale may be our route back to Lancashire/Cheshire
  7. Thank you, just the 2 of us, not as young and fit as we once were but capable of locks and not in any rush. The HNC was our first choice just depends if we can get a suitable booking for standedge. I was allowing 3 days Leeds to Huudersfield and 3 or 4 days up to the tunnel
  8. Hi We are planning travelling from leeds to manchester either via the hnc or rochdale. Does anyone have any advice or tips, apart (from don't bother 🙂 )
  9. I think they are mooring bollards from an old, now removed lock
  10. Thank you, thought I must be missing something. I was using the pdf version but when you look on the normal one it makes it much easier. Glad I asked and got a very useful reply.
  11. Hi, I have been looking at the proposed winter stoppages on the Leeds Liverpool (there are quite a lot) and found it not so easy to find certain ones, most have a lock or bridge number so it is easy but some, such as this one Thorlby Let-off Sluice just have a place. Does anyone have any good ideas as to how I can find them quicker than using google maps to find Thorlby and then guessing where on the canal the let off sluice is. The winding holes although numbered in the stoppage notice, don't appear to be numbered in my Pearsons Any help would be appreciated
  12. When were they in coalition with labour?
  13. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  14. Maybe they only have a 200Kva generator because there are no charging points. If enough charging points were able to be installed in an economically viable way then newer electric boats would have no need for a generator.
  15. Would a cheap tarpaulin over the cruise deck not make most of the water run back into the lock rather than into the engine bay?
  16. On the other hand, if you only go to Leeds once every other year and spend the rest of the time further south, getting wet a couple of times v an extra 4 ft of space for the other 726 days?
  17. Maybe I am mistaken but thought you could still do the Leeds Liverpool with a 62', a bit tight through wigan and the bingley 5 rise but still possible. The Huddersfield broad and Calder and Hebble would be the only ones you couldn't do. If someone with experience could please correct me if I am wrong before I try and fail it would be appreciated
  18. If it is the Brewdog lost beer you have been getting, they have a 10 pack for £11 in Asda, even better value than the 2 for £10
  19. Nice Netgear one on Amazon for £700. Anyone know if it is that much better than the £150 routers?
  20. Loving all the advice I am getting on here, I was a little wary of posting for fear of people telling me I am an idiot but it has all been so informative. It is good to get experienced boaters advice and opinions
  21. large rear hatch is a good idea, just that we have been able to choose which end to sit out at with semi, the stern isn,t the most comfortable though depending on the tumblehome
  22. The pram cover comment made me laugh, I agree with you regarding the silly looks and am still undecided on one. Wasn't planning on doing the calder and hebble as I thought I could go round the leeds liverpool and down the trent, so a 61 gives me 4 foot of extra space and longer and the wigan flight would prove difficult i think
  23. Agree with the bathroom, it is still open to change, the semi was to enable us both to perch on the side of the rear doors whilst cruising and looking forward, a pram hood, though a little ugly will allow for taking off wet clothes and protect the engine bay
  24. I understood 57 was maximum on the calder and hebble but 61 maximumwould get us along the leeds liverpool, I am happy to be corrected
