  1. Thanks for your reply's. So now to work out if more advantageous to have boat on hard standing and do the work or have put in the water get basic work done then of cruising around the cut.
  2. General question and it may seem a stupid one to most of you. At what stage do you get your boat license? If you are having a boat built for example a sailaway and you are fitting it out yourself at what stage do you get or apply for the license? When it goes in the water or before? does it need to be licensed when on a hard standing whilst being fitted out?
  3. Wow 20 bikes. What size boat do you have?
  4. Good tip with me pedaling the bike wouldn't be going at any great speed though The biggest problem pedestrians are likely to have is me wobbling and falling off on top of them.
  5. Those of you who have bikes an their boats How do you store them and keep them secure on your boat? Is there such a thing as a bike rack that you can fit on the boat like on the back of a car? Do you have recommendations for bike trailers to go on the back of bikes to make collecting shopping easier? Are their restrictions on tow paths as to cycling? Are there advantages to having an electric bike on the tow paths
  6. I am glad you asked this question it is one we have been considering. We are planning to do a new build next year and were looking into this. Have you come to any conclusions on this yet or found any one who has one fitted
  7. Now that is strange I will have to look at my profile or whatever as I am a new member just about 1 week ago so complete novice. Thanks thats great
  8. Do these guides also tell you the length and width of boat that can go through each lock or bridges
  9. Sorry another question. Did you find that your feet swelled with the heat did the under floor heating ever get too hot for comfort? How easily controllable was it were you able to keep it at a contast heat?
  10. Thank you so much for this information it is good to get feedback from someone who has underfloor heating. did you fit it yourself or get someone to do it?
  11. Thanks valid point there. I am just starting to look at radiators now see what's available. I allotted myself two two hours a day to search boating ideas equipment specs etc, but so far, have been at it well over 8 hrs. a day. It is getting a bit of an obsession now.🤪
  12. Thank you very valid points Thanks good information. I agree no tiles we have tiles all through our property down stairs and although the house is warm in winter the floor can still be cold
  13. Ah i hadn't realized that the space was so small hadn't given that any thought whatso ever. thanks for bringing that to my attention. So need to see how much depth the underfloor heating would take in all see how much that would make the headroom.
  14. My first two questions asked have been answered and one discussion certainly took off in all directions. So here I am again, and being controversial once again. Hope it doesn't create too much of a storm. it is being aimed mostly at those who do have under floor heating.. How have you found it has it caused any problems with feet ankles as I once heard it could cause swelling in the feet and ankles. Do your feet get too hot? Does it efficiently heat the boat. What types of under floor heating do you have fitted.? I believe that when preparing to go into living on a boat ALL things need to be considered that will help with having the best and most comfortable way of living that you are going to be happy with. I know what some people may think of as unnecessary, others think of as being essential. I am also aware that many opinions are if you want these things classed as luxuries you get a house or an apartment but we are choosing a boat, we have chance of fitting out the interior ourselves, as it will be an expensive adventure I want to make sure all things have been carefully considered . Thankfully we are no longer in the middle ages and technology has improved immensely, as in solar power batteries and general off the grid living is becoming easier. Just because I am considering these things doesn't mean to say our boat will have all the mod cons because it wont I just want to choose what I feel are the best options for us. Taking into consideration the opinions and advice of those who have already been there and done it
  15. Thanks hadn't really looked into hybrid yzt but is certainly worth thinking about for sure. Is there any information on forth coming regulations in the boating world at the current time ?
  16. Thank you Old Goat that is a very useful tip will certainly look at idea of putting in an airing cupboard. I like thinking sideways and out of the box if and where possible. When hubby and I were first married we had a mobile home on a piece of land no electric except for a generator which we used as little as possible. In the bathroom we had a bath which I used to wash things by hand then and used a mangle mounted over the bath to wring out the water. It was very effective but I was a lot younger then. Also had Gas lights, cooker and a gas iron they were good days fun and adventurous.
  17. Thank you I wasn't sure if there were any problems or restrictions to hanging washing out on a boat. I love a washing line and in all the houses I have lived in never had one but always checked if I could get a nice long line out in the garden for my washing. It makes sense what you said about heating and drying whilst cruising.
  18. Definitely looking at lithium batteries as would be starting blank canvas so to speak hope to be able to put top spec in
  19. Ok I realize that a dryer does take a lot of power. This is why we are looking at all the options electrical equipment so when planning the layout design of boat interior all necessary fittings connections will be put in place. I was really just wandering if people have an opinion as to which type would be best to fit. There will be a washing machine but for the winter months when it will be more difficult to get washing dry I hat to run out of undies and socks. Even though Hubby could make one pair of 4 days§§🤯
  20. As my last post on dishwasher had some interesting replies. I am know going to ask what you all think of washing machine dryer combination or two separate machines. It will be necessary to have a washing machine on board as we intend to live on the boat full time.
  21. Thank you Keith, Although I Call him an old F.... he is definitely very modern and up-to-date with his electrical knowledge So yes will be doing 24v and 12v I think. Unfortunately I am not the technical one But Hubby is and I have over the last two weeks totally go glazed over when he gets all technical He is currently looking at solar panel output etc and batteries of which I have no idea what he is talking about. He just want me to decide what is necessary as far as electrical on the boat and as We had seen several boats fitted with dishwashers thought there maybe some reason that I can't think of as to why they would be good or necessary on a boat. So decision made no need for dishwasher Just need to get the Husband manual as suggested by Arthur Marshal see if I can program him to do dishes 😁 the boat will be definitely in the 21st century👍
  22. Thank you for this information. My husband is very knowledgeable about all types of electrics both household and 12v etc and has worked on many different types of installation.. Certainly will consider getting a surveyor to sign off on stages will have to look into that as didn't know that was possible. Would it only be the electrical fitting and plumbing and Gas fittings or would that also have to be considered for all other fitting as in cabinets wardrobes beds etc? We have been watching a lot of you tube videos on fitting out boats and of course they don't go into any detail or mention the type of thing you have just quoted. So would be grateful for any information or links you could provide us with to be able to comply to these regulations
  23. Thanks everyone that has replied so quickly to my post. As I though an unnecessary piece of equipment. As Tony Brooks said I have a suitable model a "Husband"😀 Although he is good at a lot of things the Dishes aren't one of them. I will have to just keep doing them myself🙄
  24. Hi I am hoping this is in the correct category to ask this question. We are looking at purchasing a sailaway next year and fitting it out ourselves. I am very lucky my husband is very handy and can do most jobs. We have previously renovated three properties but are now looking at moving on to a boat. We have been doing a lot of research and are continuing to do so. My main concern is the electrical equipment on the boat, kitchen design layout. I see lots of new builds have dishwashers in them. I am not so sure whether necessary or not. What are the advantages disadvantages of having one on board a boat.. Would the space be better used for storage than putting one in and how much water does one use? We are currently trying to calculate how much electrical power would be used. I have a million and one questions to ask, so be prepared for the other questions to come.
