  1. Yup, I've seen that. Not really better, either you lose privacy and it can be full of malware or you lose privacy and support a horrible company. I'm not opening account with either. I guess I'm stuck here for now.
  2. This is a very confusing tread. Looks like there is a tone of versions everyone can buy and how well they work depends on temperature of the stove and shape of space. Can't everyone just agree that some fan's work great in some spaces and some fans are just trash and be done with it? Unless it's just a friendly banter for when people are bored, in that case carry on, I will join you later with some wild untested ideas.
  3. I have strong feelings about using websites that are missing https
  4. Hi, My wife and myself are planning on getting our own boat and we are trying to learn as much as we can while saving money. We are in Edmonton and happy to grab a train somewhere along the Lea Navigation to experience some narrowboating and learn things. Not sure what that could involve, I guess we can help with locks if someone is leaving or coming to London that way. I don't think people do a lot of non-emergency work in that weather? She is an artist and I did few years in a proper shipyard loooong time ago so not sure if any of that is useful in a huge way. Day to day we do various computer stuff, I'm actually fine with fixing someone's computer while we travel and they teach me about engine or water or solar or anything. I'm open to any suggestions really, worst case it will turn out it was a horrible idea
  5. Thank you to everyone who took time to have a look. I will check the tread every few days and update the page as new suggestions are added. For now I will add notes about heat, reminder about impossible maintenance under flexi panels. It's aimed at totally new people so reminder about cleaning is also great. I'm interested in you saying flexi panels are physically breaking. I was under impression that can be walked on? My personal plan was to eat the cost if I can in exchange for smooth roof that I can walk on when I need to. Our initial plan was to have it very low to fit everywhere as we travel.
  6. Hi, I'm in the research and money saving phase of getting a narrowboat. I was really confused by all the solar panel options, what they mean, how they compare and how bad it will be if I go with flexible ones. So I've made a simple comparison, basically a fancy spreadsheet. I hope someone will find it useful, please feel free to let me know and suggestions for improvements. TL;DR: Bigger frame panels provide more power per m² and more power per £ spent on them. This is not true for flex panels to such a degree. Power per £ is significantly better in frame models. Frame vs Flex power per m² is about the same (if we ignore angle). TODO: Researching and adding a graph of expected efficiency in UK per month (shade/sun) for flat roof and calculation of gains if someone aims panel twice a day. Adding top down view of boats of different seizes with example roof coverage and possible power gain per type/month. Have a great weekend everyone.
