  1. Hi, I am going to try the Star Tron instead. I seems to get good reviews! -It could save a lot of people a lot of fuel if it works!
  2. Hi, I stumbled accross this on ebay. Has anyone tried this? It seems like a dream for petrol users - or am I just dreaming?
  3. Hi, Thanks for all your thoughts. Most of them I had mulled over , but others I had to rethink! My final choice is to remove both Enfields and advertise them, and to dismantle the perkins 4107 and advertise the parts, along with the watercooled exhausts, heat exchagers, manifolds, raw water pumps, filters, calorifier, etc. With the money I make doing this will enable me to fit an outboard for ease of maintenance. I will be adverising the parts here first, then perhaps on a well know auction site. If anyone is looking for parts e-mail me with details of what you are interested in. Thanks for all you advice. Philip
  4. Hi, As per previous posts, I have a seamaster 32 type boat with twin Enfield and perkins 4107 drives. One of the engines is kapoot and the other is getting on a bit. I have hot water on gas, so don't need a calorifier. I have been thinking about replacing them with 2 used outboards. Benefits - easy to fix , repair, remove and maintain. easier for the BSC more space on board But gusty on fuel. I could sell my Enfields and spares for the perkins to help pay for the 2 outboards. - along with filters, starters, exhausts etc. Would I be better to go for 2 40/50hp or one 90hp plus a small one as back up. It is used on Canals and sometimes coastal work as a holiday boat only. Good to hear your thoughts.
  5. I thought the conversation might go this way! It is not an ex Hire Boat, but a still sleek coastal cruiser. I have started to strip down to see what was under the plastic and ply boarding and check that it was relatively dry, as it is. I like the idea of a small potbelly stove as well, but it has a websco heater all ready built in, but if I saw one on fleabay I might just go for one anyway! I saw that you can buy spray glue that would do the job, between that and aluminium style insulation, I think I am hooked!
  6. Hi, I am rescuing a Senior/project31. Is it worth insulating it? It will not be used overnight in the winter but mainly summer use. I have been looking at super quilt or similar. Is it worth the hassle and if so what adhesive is the easiest to use? Love to hear your thoughts.
  7. Apparently I will have to take out the oil filter and measure it as there are 2 that are very similar just different lengths! Thanks for the info though. It was through Parts4engines.
  8. Hi, Having just spent an hour or so getting really nowhere, can you give me the part numbers for a perkins 4 107 oil and fuel filters. Also can you buy a cylinder head gasket on its own? Thanks.
  9. Hi All, Thanks for your help. I have taken both starters to bits and cleaned them with diesel to loosen the rust and gunge, then with petrol, and now waiting for them to dry out and see what happens. One of them had BOTH screws at the rear touching the body, so I have removed the unused one and will make sure the other is Isolated. - I think that is one of the reasons he sold the boat! - That and many of the other faults still to find! - Something about known unknowns and unknown unknowns is springing to mind.
  10. Hi, I have just bought an old Senior 31/ project 31 that I am going to save from extinction! It is on dry land and has been there for a number of years. There has recently been 12" of water inside and one of the perkins 4107 has been partially dismantled. I have got the "good" engine turning by using a screwdriver on the flywheel teeth and seems to be ok. -After a had removed the injectors, filled the cylinders with hot oil and filled the engine with diesel and left it over night! The starter, an SL189 perkins 13 tooth inertia starter motor I think seems to have 2 wiring connectors both the same at the rear.I will have to strip this down as well but it also turns but will be damp.- When I try a battery on either connector I get a short. Should there be 2 soleniods per starter? and does anyone have a wiring diagram of the circuits of the boat? I would like to get one engine running and then I can put it on the water if necessary so any help will be great! Thanks
  11. Hi, I purchased an Eber Hydronic B5WS on e-bay over the winter for my new boat. ( I have a Lister aircooled engine) It seemed like a good deal- £250 brand new out of an Audi, VW ! I have now wired it in but nothing happens. I have a lot of info from the website but I can't get it to work The Fuel pump and water pump are separate. There are 8 connectors only. 1 red - Battery +ve 2 Brown - Battery -ve 3 black/red - not used 4 Green - Fuel pump 5 blue/white - to Diagnostic (I think) therefore unused. 6 Blue - to temp sensor or on/Off switch - would this be a link to the +ve battery via a Toddle switch? 7 yellow - to D+ dynamo should I bother with this or hook it up to the +ve output of the Alternator or battery +Ve 8 Black/white -unused I have only used the 1 and 2 for the power, and 4 for the fuel pump with the 2 nd wire going to the -Ve What do 5,6,7 do and are they neccessary? particulary no.6 WE can't go very far without hot water!!!! Please any help will be accepted.
  12. Hi Chris, Sorry no numbers at all anywhere!!!! Can you PM me with your phone number so we can discuss this. Thanks.
  13. Hi, That's great! I will look for any info on engine. Will post on tues night. Thanks
  14. Hi, I have just fitted a Lister SR3 in my new boat. The idel speed with no load is 932rpm and with the Hydaulic box in forward it is 884 rpm. There is no alternator fitted yet so this may bring it down further. But it still seems too high. The book says that the speeds should be 700-2000 or 850-2500. Why the difference in the speed ranges , governor weights, springs etc. are all the same????? Hope you can help to reduce it as it could be fun in Marinas doing 10 knots!!!!! Thanks
  15. Hi, I have just fitted a used Kabola in my boat. Before fitting, it was cleaned inside and out. It started up without any problems but went out after running about 20mins. -relit and stopped again.! When you held down the flame safe lever, it restarted. I investigated the control box and topped up the oil level with deisel?????? Restarted and it went like a train! BUT - the flame was blue on the outside with yellow in the centre -it did look like a real fire. Is this correct? Also I was unable to seem to adjust the flame before I finally had to go home. Any help at all will be great. I am going back to the boat tomorrow to try out your advice. Thanks
