  1. Cheapest and best way ! Pop down the pub and enjoy a few beers. Ask you friendly landlord for some pipe cleaning fluid ( I used to give it free to good customers as it's very cheap). Then flush your pipes and tank. Then fill and leave in overnight. Next morning flush out with fresh water and you're ready to serve some good ale - oh sorry, water!
  2. If possible, locate the stove centrally on the left hand side of the boat. Why to the left(Port):- when two vessels meet both under power you should turn to starboard. This means your chimney will remain towards the centre of the cut rather than being entangled in bankside bushes & trees etc.
  3. Make sure your 'friend' has a baseball with him. Then he is only practicing his sport Otherwise the police seem to consider a baseball bat as an offensive weapon; strange
  4. Thanks everybody. I really appreciate that you're taking the time to give me the info. Cheers
  5. Thanks for the thought there. Hopefully this afternoon, I'm going to try drawing to scale the side views to get an idea of the look. Cheers
  6. Thankyou John, The tip of alternating the window positions is a great idea - I'm going to do that. This is the window supplier I'll probably be using Click here I plan to use a hopper with slider over the galley sink - easy to feed the ducks and groundbait the fish etc. I think I'll go for the hidden fixings with black powder coating. With maroon cabin sides and cream panel lines I think they'll give me that 'bit different ' look and possibly smarter than the normal gold finish. If I get a problem I'll PM you for a copy of your plans - thankyou.
  7. Thanks for your replies. Seems perhaps it is 21" on standard/current gunwale height and perhaps 24" on the lower tug gunwale height? So I'll work on a 21" height. Cheers
  8. I'm miles away from any narrowboats, so I can't go and measure any of their windows. Would somebody please tell me the normal/standard height of narrowboat windows. The ones with a top hopper. I guess it's 21" or 24", but please tell me. Info appreciated
  9. Did for 30yrs. Now lived ashore for 4 years and we don't like it. Looking forward to next Spring when we'll be back on the water again.
  10. Just be firm when negotiating. I have recently ordered a hull and paid £500 deposit. The remainder to be paid when the hull is complete and I am satisfied etc. I have negotiated for it to be fitted out by another Company. I've paid a £500 deposit and I've agreed to make stage payments after the work has been carried out and ownership of all fitted items has been passed to me. Both Companies have been established for many years and fairly well known etc. If both of these reputable Companies go down the pan ( unlikely) I'll lose a grand max; I accept that risk. Reputable boat builders understand a customers caution in parting with money on the basis of promises and possible 'flying pigs'. If, as a purchaser, you are proven to have the funds available and also be a serious and reliable a reputable boat builder does not want to lose your business and throw away potential profits. They will therefore negotiate terms with you.
  11. Sorry forget to put the link in, but that's the one. Been withdrawn now
  12. On Ebay and currently £10.50 at 15:30 on 22nd Oct. I noticed this and thought someone might get a bargain? I have nothing to do with the seller or the boat. Seller says HAD and engine and gearbox which runs etc. I wonder where the engine is now? Perhaps it's fallen thru the baseplate.
  13. I'm dreaming of Christmas. I've arranged to be with friends who live in the British Virgins. Enjoying their golden beaches, blue skies and seas. Snorkelling then laying back in the shade under the palm trees and drinking rum & coke with ice chinking in the glass. Sorry if this upsets you, everyone to their own and I do hope you enjoy your Xmas. May I be the first one to wish you a very MERRY XMAS
  14. That's the one Scotty. Thanks for your quick reply with the link. I'll now tell people what I want for Xmas
  15. A friend has told me that there are guides produced, written by a boater, listing shops and services near the canals. He thinks there is sketch maps in the guides. Perhaps they are called something like 'Living on the canals'. He feels sure these guides are kept up to date because the writer cruises the canals. I've done the searches here and google etc. But, I'm obviously not entering the correct criteria. Does anybody know of these guides and where I can get them? Your reply appreciated. Thanks
  16. Anybody know where I can get the Sinergex 1500 watt puresine unit at a reasonable price?
  17. From previous posts I know I need a 3000w pure sine wave inverter for the washing machine. I wondered whether it's economic to use this large size inverter to run the gogglebox or should I buy a seperate small inverter for the TV, which will be a 15" flat screen.
  18. Hi there, Your comments have been appreciated. Just to let you know I have decided to fit the Morco. Partly due to spare parts being readily available and the initial buying price is reasonable. Thankyou
  19. Thanks everybody for your comments which are appreciated. I have decided I should install the 3kw Sterling
  20. I understand it's a cold water fill only. I thought the heater element would be the deciding inverter size factor, not the spin speed. I understand the heater to be 1300w, but what it all needs on start up I don't know. I'd luv to hear from somebody who's got this set up working
  21. Hi I messaged MC asking if a Sterling 1500 pure sine wave inverter would run a Candy 1000 washing machine. I understood MC used to sell these items as a package, although Candy say their machine needs a 3kw inverter. I was interested if MC had any user complaints etc. This is their email reply:- Your 1500w pure sine inverter will be able to run the candy washing machine as its a 1000 spin Lee Churm Branch Manager,Midland Chandlers Ltd, Penkridge. 01785 712437 I don't understand the link between the spin and the inverter size needed? Please will somebody help me and either catagorically deny or confirm that a 1500w Sterling will run the 1000 Candy. . I have read thru many pages on the forum regarding this subject, but I still seem unclear Your replies appreciated
  22. I wish to install an instant gas water heater. I used to like the Paloma but they don't seem to be available now. Which of the current gas water heaters are rated as best for a n/b? Your info appreciated.
  23. I'm thinking of installing a macerator or a vacuflush system. Anybody got any personal experience of either and can tell me the advantages of each system; please?
  24. I love the sound of the really old engines , counting each heartbeat etc, great, fantastic. Really canally. I also think other peoples beautiful gardens are great. But I wouldn't like the maintenance of either. I suppose I'm really lazy
