  1. We live in Gloucestershire and we were very happy with a short trip up the M5 to Stourport - or Droitwich Marina may be even closer now
  2. I always though Pete Thompson had an evil look about him...................

  4. There used to be a marina at Thames Ditton that sold diesel - worth checking before you go past Shepperton though!
  5. Both pumps now on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161066977686?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161066976439?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  6. Thanks for that, the JP pump is different. Would be interested to know about Gardners though
  7. I have a couple of BPE fuel pumps that I want to get rid of, I know they are fitted to the Kelvin P4 but there must be other vintage engines that fitted them. Someone suggested that the JP4 had them?
  8. Not sure if this has been mentioned before - but RIGAL is on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Narrow-Boat-Canal-Boat-Barge-Working-Boat-70ft-Small-Woolwich-/151068772072?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item232c6686e8
  9. Is there a technique for filling these voids - some sort of forced grout technique for example?
  10. Plumbers mate? http://www.rubberduckbathrooms.co.uk/spares-repairs/seals-sealant/evo-stick-plumbers-mait-quick-leak-repair-putty?gclid=CNL32bKK_bcCFUfKtAodznoArA&zenid=156c64b6f3fc7422dff54885f700b0d7
  11. Waterway: Birmingham Canal Old Main Line » From 21/06/2013 until further notice UPDATE (21 June 2013): Our investigations have revealed the lock wall has moved significantly, probably through water ingress from the recent vandalism, and it would now pose a danger to any boat using it. We have therefore reluctantly closed the lock until repairs can be carried out. At this stage it is envisaged the lock will remain closed until at least the 12th of July. Further updates will be posted once more detail is known regarding timescales.
  12. Interesting that the crew from the Narrowboat Trust didn't make it to the top table either (it may have been you that I was sitting with on the Saturday evening) Maybe a common interest insn't enough after all - maybe you have to actually own your boat!
  13. The marina was a pretty run down place and staff were very unhelpful - I had booked ahead, but we got shouted at as we entered, our pre booking was questioned (luckily it was written on the white board in the office) and I was told - 'you get nothing, no power, no water - nothing' I wouldn't stop there again - shame, as I remember it from years ago being quite nice. We didn't enjoy the event - there weren't many boats attending and they were split into 3 distinct groups, unconverted working baots, converted working boats and (bizarrely) cruising boats. There were specific areas for each class (and it really did feel like a class thing!!) - the cruising boats were on the main line. No boaters pack or plaque, despite it being mentioned on the website; and during the event, nobody even came to say hi and welcome us. The sideshows were a bit like the world's worst school fete. During the evening in the bar (with a good range of beer), the unconverted boat brigade huddled together at one end whilst the rest of us who were clearly 'not worthy' had the rest of the tent - although most people on the mainline didn't bother with the walk. We left at 09.00 on the Sunday and wouldn't return.
  14. I work in the range industry and folk often think that running a solid fuel range just involves burning a small amount of wood - probably picked up by the roadside! In reality, the Rayburn working in a domestic environment with a CH boiler for heating and water will consume 7 tonnes of wood per year! Not to be underestimated!
  15. Great - we'll be there from Friday onwards. We are in the Festival Gardens marina for the week
  16. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  17. I had a set of photos of my engine when I bought it (fully refurbished) - it was still a bag of crap though!
  18. Thanks - ordered on Amazon £1.48 + p&p
  19. Is that Harland and Wolff built them - out in the open like that? I always assumed that they had covered docks etc. Is it a side slip from there - or has it already been 'launched' Are there any pictures surviving of how they did it?
  20. Has the cable broken? You should be able to see something move on the gearbox as forward and reverse is selected?
  21. There is another bronze windlass which looks identical to the one discussed on this thread on eBay currently. It has the arrow that apparently identifies it as coming from Keays Dock. E bay item 161008094709
  22. I recently picked up a set of eight original lobby cards for the Bargee There are a couple on ebay (not mine) currently (from the US weirdly!) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BARGEE-ORIGINAL-LOBBY-CARD-HARRY-H-CORBETT-RONNIE-BARKER-JULIA-FOSTER-/110814157628?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19cd09db3c and http://www.ebay.ca/itm/BARGEE-ORIGINAL-LOBBY-CARD-HARRY-H-CORBETT-JULIA-FOSTER-HUGH-GRIFFITH-/120848882059?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c2327998b#ht_500wt_923
