  2. Hi We used to moor at billing aquadrome for 2 years It very much depends what you want out of it Plus points are It's a nice big marina Very friendly people on there Cheap for what you get Colin who runs the marina is a friendly and helpfull chap On site security Use of the swimming pool and facilities Free passes to the events Negative points It's a big marina !! Can get very choppy in the wind The river has been known to flood and the marina evacuated The smell can get very bad Noisy in summer The park itself is very badly managed

  6. not sure about the electric side of things but I'm sure someone will help out on that subject soon but you may want to look into the water consumption side of it a bit more i think 99% of washer/dryers are condenser type dryers and these use a lot of water during the drying cycle usually double or treble the wash cycle amount
  7. cheers for clearing that up we want to do the Lancaster and parents live near burnley so the L&L is a must for us as far as i can tell the only bits we wont be able to do in a 62 ft`er is the calder & hebble and the Huddersfield broad unless you know better??
  8. I know all the canal size restriction websites say that 62 ft is the maxim length for the Leeds / Liverpool but iv`e seen a few videos / programs now that state 60ft is the max and your boat is gaged at the start of the canal before your allowed to continue can anyone who has actually been there confirm if this is true p.s. i have a 62ft narrowboat
  9. thank god theres someone else that realized that fact I'm sick of people saying that we should all be "greener" and use solar panels and electric cars/boats etc etc do these people ever research the impact of these "alternatives" before they condemn the internal combustion engine the only true green/ environmentally friendly way is to all go back to living in caves and clubbing your dinner to death ( with a Eco friendly wooden club obviously )
  10. Just finish our first proper canal related activity IWA canal clean up down the GU through Leighton buzzard i was expecting the shopping trolleys and cycles etc but was surprised how much boat related crap we dragged out of the cut makes you wonder how some "boaters" view the canal system!!! anyway we had a great time but ain't been this knacker-ed for a few years!!

    NEC SHOW

went today and if your just going to look at narrow boats or canal related stuff then i would give it a miss but if you just want to look around for equipment or at the latest gadgets n gizmo's then just go in the caravan halls ( 4 and 5 i think ) theres loads of small stalls there well worth a look
  12. you can have an official residential mooring at Mk marina ( i have one ) not sure that theres any vacancies at the moment but its worth popping in and asking speak to Ian or Graham
  13. Just to add a bit of fuel to the fire but was told yesterday that battery costs will be going up by between 25% and 50% in the next month or 2 by our suppliers ( I'm in the motor trade b.t.w. ) but i would see no reason why this wont be the same with leisure batteries! all down to the cost of lead apparently???
  14. thats when you remove there door mirrors with your boot!!!
  15. sorry to butt in but didn't want to start a similar topic but are "numax" leisure batteries any good?? seem to be a name that crops up a lot and are very competitively priced!!
  16. just wondering I can find lots of details on the deepest locks on the system but can find nothing about the shallowest ( smallest water level change ) on the GU near us the fenny Stratford lock has a drop of 11 inches is there any less???

  18. just had our first week down the GU on a hire boat trying to sort out the good ideas from the bad for our boat!! anyway the one thing that we did mis from home was a waste disposal unit in the kitchen sink ( yes i know were strange ) but apart from the power and physical size of the thing would it be wrong to have one fitted and be dumping all the food waste overboard ??? don't know what the ethics of this would be?? cheers

  20. the new boat is now under way ( welding started this week ) and have just been offered an option on the wate tank design on the original plans it was under the sofa as near to the center line as poss but aparantly now they are putting them on the rear bulkhead ( cabin side ) it is only 9 in wide but the full whith of the boat up to gunnel level and holds approx 70 galls but the big advantage it will never affect the trim of the boat so has anyone had any experiance with this tank layout ( or thoughts on possible disadvantages ) i have to let them know one way or other by next week
  21. LOL like the thinking there!!!
  22. each to his own but in our case as well as storage we need a lot more electric capacity i.e. bigger battery bank and a more powerfull invertor a portable genny a washing machine double glazed windows and larger tanks ( fresh water and waste ) and a decent size shower cubicle i.e. a walk in shower
  23. is my memory right in telling me mixy was an "introduced" disease by the government back in the sixtys to bring down the wild rabbit population
  24. you`ve lost me now!! all i asked was which inverter you would recomend!
