    Ecofan

Dimwit to the fore! what is an ecofan? and what is the difference between an ecofan and my three blade cooling fan? If they really work can one be recommended for my lounge as most of the heat seems to go up the chimney?
  2. I got one, I immediately deleted it so did not see who from Edited to add that I used the back button and it was from deleted account

  10. Original email It was lovely to speak with you the other day. I was wondering whether the committee would like some pictures of installations of solid fuel stoves in leisure craft or even a visit to some, especially an historic working boat? I expect that this has already happened but thought I would make the offer to you and try to arrange something if you would like. There is really one question I would like the answer to and that is whether this will be used retrospectively? I can see that for a new build craft it would be easier to work round new proposals but if one was fitted retrospectively this could cause problems structurally. Also what effect would this have on craft that already have stoves installed? I do know of some appalling installations and can see why this is all necessary but there are many safe installations out there that would not meet the new proposals as they stand. Do you have the name of someone that I could contact on the Boat Safety Scheme about this? I would really appreciate it if you have. Answer Thank you for this - it was also very pleasant to speak with you again For your information the Consultants appointed to undertake the drafting of the Code of Practice currently "out there for public comment" did visit a fair number of boat yards to inspect craft at various stages of construction along with some existing boats (with or without solid fuel heating installed) as part of the contract As a result of the above your kind offer of help in respect of further inspections will at this stage not be required but thank you As you know from our conversation this COP is being jointly developed by two BSI Committees (i) RHE/28 and (ii) GME/33. RHE/28 is "responsible" for the technical " bits " relating to the appliance and chimney system with input from GME/33 on the construction and use of the products on completion However, the one question you are seeking an answer to is outside the scope of RHE/28 and would therefore suggest that you contact Mr Graham Watts - Manager - Boat Safety Scheme (graham.watts@britishwaterways.co.uk) who can no doubt deal with the various issues you have raised At the time and still now I was really concerned about retrospective guidance in the bss, I did not I am afraid have the time to follow it up.

  13. BSS sit on the committee, I was given the details name etc but they are at work but he is the one in charge of BSS
  14. Try here, they might know more about weight on a dawncraft, shouldn't have thought it would overload but you never know http://dawncraftowners.com/phpBB3/index.ph...5792de816a851c2

    BS8511

When I spoke to my contact on the committee at the time of consultation I offered to set up some visits if they required to see first hand what might happen if they bring in the draft version with no alterations retrospectively. I was told that the BSS guy (can't remember his name offhand) was on the committee and that they had visited boats. You are right Richard, when I read the consultation doc at the time, it appeared that they had cut and paste from Part J. I tried to get some official representation on the committee as officials were invited but as a boat is not a building it was a 'no go'

  18. http://www.jim-shead.com/waterways/mwp.php...eat-Haywood.htm I think there may be a little more to this. The marina I am in will take a percentage if you sell your boat privately (not sure what without looking it up though) or you can use their brokerage.

    BS8511

http://www.communities.gov.uk/publications...rtjconsultation part J revision consultation has recently closed and it may well be the results of this that the committee for BS8511 are waiting for (never thought to ask that question, doh)
  20. News today said temperatures last night dropped to -18 in Oxfordshire and greater Manchester, might be time to start worrying again?
  21. Because the area is so narrow I need it to pop up instantly so that it is out of the way instantly, rather like a cinema seat's action (the way it works not what happens on it!!!)
  22. I would like to have a small seat in the cockpit. What I would like is it mounted on the wall in front of the steering wheel and it pops up when you stand up' As you can see there is not much room so the spring would need to be fairly flat. I have searched extensively for a spring to no avail. I know they are made as I saw the ideal thing in the lift in the doctors surgery! The box that is there in this rather poor quality pic is no longer there. Any ideas anyone?

  25. Leeds and Liverpool is one of my favourites, absolutely stunning. Also the best fish and chip shop in my opinion is bizzy lizzies at Skipton. Worth the trip for those alone!
