  2. You can Tile directly on to Aquapanel Aquapanel has a Thermal Conductivity W/mk of 0.35 My instalation has an almost 2" airgap between the panel and the bulkhead. The bulkhead is cool to the touch by placing the hand inside the airgap with the stove working. This airgap also has an airflow gap at the bottom and the top to allow air to circulate behind the panel. Aquapanel is very safe when fitted following the guidelines in BS8511
  3. Another vote for Aquapanel or Cement board. just done my surround with it, suitable for tiling and its non-combustable. About £17 quid a panel in Wickes and they currently have a 3 for 2 offer.
  4. It wasnt a boast, just a point that i wasnt aware its not advisable and so far so good. It was last serviced just over two years ago so will be interesting to see if its affected the unit adversly. Interesting thread and thanks for the info.
  5. I didnt know you shouldnt use a thermostat with a Webasto. I fitted a standard household room thermostat a couple of years ago. Works great, saves on fuel consumtion and the Weby runs fine.
  6. In my previous seagoing life, having done the trip from Chatham to Ramsgate numerous times, not always by choice as our destination was Oostende with Ramsgate being the Bolthole. We used to average 12 hours from Chatham to Oostende. Thats in a boat with an engine that provided a cruising speed of 7 knots over the ground with no wide or tide. Times from Chatham to Ramsgate varied between 6 and 8 hours, again depending on tide and if we could use the inshore passage (Gore Channel) when approaching Margate. The advise to choose forecasted winds of force four and below is often stated but you will also need to plan the direction of the wind and tide as I have done the section from Sheppy to North Foreland on an outgoing tide with easterlies blowing force 4 and had waves breaking over our bow and drenching the wheelhouse. Generally, the most lumpy bit is around the North Foreland and once clear of that things calm down as you head up the Thames Estuary. Its more than doable in a Broads style cruiser provided you choose the right conditions and your happy with the servicability of the engine and fuel supply. One trip I did in a 90' 100 yr old Dutch Barge was quite interesting. We left Neuiport in Belgium in a dead calm with the sea like a mill pond. Halfway across the wind and sea picked up and we were bouncing around all over the place for several hours. Finally got round North Foreland and all was calm and peacefull again all the way into Chatham. That particular crossing took just under 24 hours. Approaching Broadstairs
  7. There must be summat wrong with me, I quite like it
  8. Another vote for Thin Houshold Bleach. A lot cheaper than Milton and its basically the same stuff. used it on all my boats over the years and Ive always used the tank for drinking water. Do not use Thick Bleach.
  9. Slough Arm Winter Moorings as at 1st Nov. no facilities
  10. I used to dry Dock my old tub once a year for two weeks for maintainance and she never leaked on refloating. I suppose two weeks wasnt long enough for her to dry out fully. She was remarkably flexable though, as once she was high and dry sitting on her keel non of the internal doors would close untill she was refloated and the wood settled back into its orginal position.

  14. We have two bathrooms and when we bought the boat, both had a pump out toilet. Both these toilets were unpredictable, flushing sometimes and not others and due to a small tank would only last 4 of us between 2-3 weeks. I eventually ripped out the least reliable PO and replaced it with a Thetford porta potty which only needs emptying every 3-4 days. thats 2 adults and 2 children. I will eventually get rid of the other pump out and replace with a cassette. eta the existing pumpout is only used when im changing the full cassette or if one of the sprogs cant wait for the cassette toilet to become free. Well it is the only room I get any peace and quiet
