  1. Alternatively, as I've heard the Arts Council Funding have had funds chopped, perhaps there's a need to cut cloth accordingly.
  2. I'm just flaggerbastard. Poor Progress, the last of the sheep traders.
  3. I expect someone in "Admin" will post a copy of the preferred process to the fat boat's owner. They in turn will light their fire with it.
  4. Use the decompression levers to open the exhaust valves one at a time. When open flick the lever over and judge how snappy the valve on each cylinder is when it closes. You're looking for a sluggish return on one or more. Carbon build up on exhaust valves or stems will reduce compression and provide irregular running until things warm up and everybody starts chattering together.
  5. Chinese whispers, with no official paperwork to refer to. It only takes one person to get something wrong or transpose something and history gets re-written. It suggests in the blurb that The Lister engine may be original. Well, the engine can be accurately dated to the year it was made by the serial number.
  6. When Sam Springer started in the 70s I recall he made a DIY version. It arrived at your chosen address as a stack of pre cut rusty steel sheet. I'm doubting the 50s claim for this boat and wondering if it might have been a Springer kit.
  7. Totally off topic ... but, only last week I learned that Pocahontas (Native American Princess who allegedly saved the life of John Smith during The Jamestown kerfuffle") Is buried at Gravesend, St George's Church. There is a statue to her there, and most puzzling it bears no resemblance to Disney's version of her!
  8. Not according to the advert, however somebody will know.
  9. Who would ever have imagined such lusciousness could be found near Sodding Chipbury?

  11. In 1968 you could buy a pint of beer for half a crown or two large wrapped, sliced loaves!
  12. Here's Hazel, sitting at Clifton Cruisers, been there half a dozen or so years. Clifton upon Dunsmore, England - Google Maps https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.3797787,-1.2357688,3a,75y,271.99h,67.21t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1suo9-JXbp6s2BSP2vW7xwLA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192
  13. Thanks, I'm easily confused these days, and still not certain what the photos added. Possibly this photo might be more useful?
  14. You post a photo of a Leeds & Liverpool wide beam short boat, sporting A 40. Your opinion is it's either A 36 or A 38 or A 42. You're asking those in the area to get up close to it in order to identify it, presumably by the number cast at both ends. Which we can see is A 40. Is that an accurate summary of your post?
  15. Who knows how it may have changed since the previous owner had it? My advice would be to rely on your surveyor to advise you. Their report should detail dimensions, on board fixtures and fittings, installations tank capacities etc.
  16. My Father used to refer to it as "Monoglutium Sodomite"
  17. Quote from gov.uk ... All large cash deposits (above £6,500) can raise red flags. Even if you don’t make a single deposit of £6,500 but several smaller deposits into the account over a short period, the bank may see this as a part of the same transaction and regard it as suspicious activity. In such cases, the bank can submit a Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) department, accompanied by a currency transaction report (CTR). They pretend it's all to do with fighting money laundering, yeah right!
  18. I do what please prefer painted, because when it needs attending to, I can do it myself. So far as which looks better, a professional sprayed job is usually going to look better. However, an expensive jobby like that seriously affects your behaviour out on the cut. You'll find yourself forging up the middle of the canal panicking in case you drag the offside of your boat through brambles. Sharing in a wide lock will cause palpitations when the other boater walks down their gunnel between you while brandishing a windlass.
  19. Pineapple juice Honey White vinegar Tomato Sauce Corn starch ... choose quantities to taste, colour and texture.

  21. A thirty-foot Dawncraft with a small Honda outboard will weigh considerably less than one with a BMC 1.5 BMC Diesel and Enfield Z leg.
  22. "Tawny Owl" of this parish, will give you chapter & verse as well as supplying it.
  23. What's the risk with Badsey then? Apart from the inherent ones involved in buying any boat anywhere at anytime of course.
