  1. I'll take your word on that Clodi, even then I'll humbly take a pass if you won't mind! Even then 4 seasons..actually there was one such Garfield comic strip that probably fits west Ireland. As my memory would recall for now: at first the cat was just smiling at a sunny day, next box its suddenly snow, then rain, then hailstorm with ping pong ball sized drops, finally followed by a heavy horizontal wind gust, and the last box is of the cat back indoor slightly hunched over with almost no fur left complaining to the surprised john in the name of a thick thought bubble that said "I hate ____" (its been quite a while I forgot the exact word used)
  2. Not quite the same kind of topic but still this thread reminded me of this nevertheless. There was one particular pre-2019 day in Canada where the weather pattern was really strange with being close to zero celsius at nine in the morning (boots, sweatshirt, jacket, hat, scarf, light gloves, long pants) but by the time I was back home for a short time I was carrying my hat&gloves instead. And at lunchtime I had also dropped the jacket and changed to shoes. Needless to say the early afternoon turned out to be 24+ celsius so I finally had stripped down almost everything except my boxer and tshirt as to go on with the rest of the day with only shorts and sockless sandals on. I think that was the only one time I had actually seen such a wild temperature change in one single day for myself outings-wise!

  6. After seeing this in the 'view new content' list I had to read it of interest And it had me thinking about a small ferry link near here and I decided to ask this question here; Were there any canal ferries that had originally been engine or cable powered and at some point in its life was converted to the other method whether a new vehicle was involved or not in that process? In my case my example from Canada is not quite a canal but its a short 'cross-river' one nevertheless, heres the small engine powered slab with single side-loading gate (normally held 2 sideway and 1 gate-facing vehicles, although a camper trailer car parked up in L shape with bike(s) filling the 'undriveable' gap also sorta worked too) which I had rode on with my father twice a long time ago And eventually at some point (when father and I went that way again somewhere in summer of 2019) one or two of these old boats were tied up for good to keep as 'spare service' while a new single night-recharged battery-powered cable ferry with truck/lorry friendly RORO deck had been introduced into service
  7. Ops haha, I somehow missed adding that error in there Alan. thats grams not kilograms. Thanks for mentioning that!! Excuse the linked large photo but this is just one example of the many flavours I love to buy from my favourite pasta store; https://parmaravioli.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Spinach-and-Cheese-Fiocco-di-Neve-scaled.jpg They're best straight from freezer into boiling pot of water indeed.
  8. Been doing a few quick doodles in afternoon and then only finally got onto drawing the 'last and real one' which you can see attached. Also I realize I may be talking quite a lot for such a simple post here but its more just for you to see my rough train of thoughts I have so far, criticisms welcomed afterward *grin* ~~ Water system; I didn't include a pump yet as I still have to pick at least one and then to see how it asks to be placed into the setup etc. Still undecided about a small cloth washer which very likely would then had ran on mixed-warm water. (I plan to continue racking my cotton/wool clothes so I don't really need a dryer on my own) I would had sourced some Dernord or similar sanity-friendly valves to put on every inlet/outlet to make it easy to be able to isolate any one piece at any time without having to literally shut down the entire system. (Leaking water that feels rather warm? cut off both sides of hot tank and make-do on just colds. Kitchen tap won't shut off? Isolate both inlets there and make-do with bath sink. ~~ Diesel system; 'thermo' is short for Webasto Thermo Pro 90 for the records. Like @matty40s was telling me, I do somewhat agree on having more load(s) for the coolant system but I'm still thinking exactly what it reasonably should be hence the one question box there for now. Don't mind the 'mini engine' catchphrase as its basically an unnamed aircooled 2- or 3-cylinder engine, something not too big unlike an old Jetta engine. Just like with the water system there'll be valves all over the place here especially with not wanting a hot radiator in the middle of summer! ~~ Electrical system; 'multimedia wall' is just a simple catch-all for the one small digital wall with a 17-24" screen in middle, small desktop computer below it, some rewired classic game consoles (yes that includes Nintendo cartridges too thank you) underneath, and then the empty space on top (and any gaps down there) being taken up by stored medias. Regarding the inverter, I decided to look at having a 200-1000W sized pure inverter just in case as you never know especially with guest electronics. The 'hot water' is a small electric immersion which in theory would only see one or few short cycles per some day just in case noone had been using much hot water therefore avoiding short-cycling the Webasto unit just to keep the 'stale' hot tank within working temperature range especially during summers with the radiators having been shut off. Also I realize while writing this post that I forgot to sketch in the cold food aspect but anyhow there should be two small Sundazer units [to be located underneath the prep countertop itself in kitchen section]. The DCR50 for the 1L milk carton, a few eggs, small soft cheeses, etc. And then DCF50 for the one or two 500-1200kg bags of retail pastas and sometimes one for-guests small ice cream carton. The rest of my favourite non-meat food choices are all warm foods. I long decided on 24V early on only because it seem like a reasonable compromise on wire diameter etc. 12V would had been too bulky nevermind a large amount of loss in overall, and finally 36V n 48V seem to be an odd niche as far as home usage goes. I'll admit I had been browsing some of the North America trucking aftermarket catalogs for certain items like for example an unlit 24V dashboard toggle switch.
  9. Hmm Welsh Cakes sounds just as good as cookies, will have to look up some sample recipes to try maybe in a few days or when that one small cake here is gone so thanks for the suggestion. Pizza oven looks like an interesting option, will see what sort of retails there are for these around within Canada.
  10. While working on the rough mechanical layout diagram I was meaning to upload to another forum section later on today I realized that I also had meant to ask about this other thing... I know that tube muffins and small quiches [for example] are not difficult to do on top of the stove alone but I just had to wonder if cookies is one of these things that I may have to stop making at home or is it not that difficult to adapt? Just trying to figure out the reasonable limit if any toward deciding to make do with only a cooktop alone and especially keeping at least one good dutch oven pot on hand there as well.
  11. Tracy I don't mean to be a bit off-topic here but wasn't Barry one of these few scrapyards that somehow took in the discarded locomotives but never really cut up many of them which eventually resulted in preservation groups 'rescuing' these intact locomotives giving to a good number of ex-Barry locomotives in steam lately? Or thats at least what I recall from the one of very few late 2000s uk heritage steam issues I had managed to read before.
  12. Matty, I wasn't sure whether to mention it in the first post or not but I did indeed plan to use some radiators during the colder months. Just not sure what sort of additional pipe load I could consider running during the warmer times when I wanted to keep the radiator completely off nevertheless so thats why I didn't mention anything yet. Thanks David, I'll have a look. And as to answer your question, to be blunt I'm still debating to myself between boat and/or simple cabin as a residence. For boat life it probably would indeed had been solar on roof and if the usual moorings turns out to not be too current-stale I might had also even considered a quick-mount (something that'll lift it when in shallow weedy water, a bit like to how you can pull the outboard motor on a rowboat clear of the water) zero-head hydro into the mix too. If I end up going with a cabin life instead then hmm it'll probably still more or less be similar interior layout [just with slight wider aisle down the middle] but likely considering a low-head hydro first over solar due to the chosen land area being trees-filled hilly but with many semi-fast small rivers everywhere. Even then in both lifestyles I would for certain still had a small 2- or 3-cylinder engine for very long spells of moody weathers. Anyhow I'll see if I have any further thoughts/questions this weekend about regarding having hot water in a small size relatively speaking.

  14. Had only looked a little bit on and off since last month but then got quite busy recently checking a lot of websites (and whatever forum threads here I could find as well) but I was just wondering what anyone else thought of this draft? Webasto Thermo Pro 90 yet-unnamed 70-100L sized tank/calorifier (I am non-uk mind you!) Dernord 24VDC immersion element (unless I instead managed to find a tank that had 24V option from factory) What I had thought here was that the immersion element would cycle a few times through the day to offset the very slow thermal loss (beside these 5-second kitchen tap uses) while the Webasto would handle the sparse few showers per week aside to any rare hot-heavy scrubbings from the kitchen. I decided to look at 70L or larger only because I thought that if I tried to use a 50L/smaller unit it may not be easy on the system with the heater having to run on full blast to keep up with one single shower and nothing else. Meanwhile at 70L some of the 'old' hot water would still be remaining in the tank so a bit of less complete thermal cycling there. Anyhow feel free to tell me what you're thinking of this if anything at all!
  15. Thanks, didn't realize about it not actually being drinking-useable as I just wasn't finding a lot on the web. And yeah I was planning to draw my first rough diagram later on this week so cheers Tony.
