  1. I believe Thames is the (only?) river that stipulates it being an offence to pump out, and it is therefore also one of the cleanest rivers in Europe. Impossible to police in practice, but if it was not permitted to have one ( a toilet connected to a seacock) installed on boats that are not sea going (i.e. all narrowboats), the problem would be close to eradicated (except for people just emptying their elsan cassette overboard.... ) Removing through-hull fittings under the waterline is also a safety issue as it is the main reason for leaks. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/how-thames-clean-river-citiy-b2064862.html

  3. Yes - agree to that, it is chocking - but somethings are easier to fix than others.. it's hard to argue a case if you are not taking necessary steps yourself 🙂
  4. When is BSS going to ban all through-hull fittings connected to a toilet? Deck fittings for pump-out should be the only connection allowed - full (cock)stop. It is ridiculous that in 2023 you are allowed to pump out the s**t in rivers and canals we all are using. The time difference to the continent on this subject is 1 hour and 40 years. (like a lot of things)
  5. Cheers #Patron, good input - I will have a look at others on the market and see what is the typical efficiency for these stabilisers.
  6. Not having to purchase "special" LED spots I plan to put one of these Voltage stabilisers in front of the junction box for each area of lights. That should provide a stable 12V and will give me a much bigger range of choice when deciding on which LEDs to purchase. https://www.wish.com/product/5e16e12801ba6c0e4e156a14?hide_login_modal=true&from_ad=goog_shopping&_display_country_code=GB&_force_currency_code=GBP&pid=googleadwords_int&c={campaignId}&ad_cid=5e16e12801ba6c0e4e156a14&ad_cc=GB&ad_curr=GBP&ad_price=10.00&campaign_id=6493229882&exclude_install=true&gclid=CjwKCAiAq8f-BRBtEiwAGr3Dga23dIt6xxD0vWhdxVm3-4yBzpyZk5yfVxtO5Y4O5K0_7kEk4ajdEBoC9DEQAvD_BwE&share=web
  7. How about a smaller storm hatch? Works on sailing yachts - no noice, no electrics, no problem.
  8. Thank you for the input. I was planning to have it in front of the engine room bulkhead, under the stair(case), so easy access - even when it is raining. Benefit is that is also work as an extra sound barrier to the living area.I will have a chat with a BSS examiner before I instruct the yard where I like the battery shelf to go (unless I keep it in the engine room after all). It's a Sailaway - delivery in january, so a lot of planning at the moment and the spring is pretty booked with getting it all in... ? Regarding Lithium batteries - yes could be an option, but it's like buying a flat screen TV, you just know that it will be half the price in a year or so, so i am not sure i feel it is value for money - yet.
  9. I have just ordered my 57' narrowboat and are doing some planning. I would like to have the service battery bank positioned under the stairs to free up space in the engine room (for the calorifier etc) and to keep the weight low in the boat. I plan to build a proper battery box with ventilation up to a vent in the cockpit bulkhead. Has it been done before and will it pass BSS? Do I have to have sealed batteries or will it be OK with standard leisure ones.
