  1. Visited boat yesterday and looked at calorifier. Could not see any obvious drain point. See photo. Am thinking a greenhouse heater may be the answer but as it is under rear deck the heater may be expensive option as it is as good as outside the boat.
  2. Thanks for all your advice. Will go to the boat over next few days and see of there is a drain off to calorifier. It is alongside engine, ( cruiser stern ) seems daft place to put it, you dont put airing cupboard in the garage but anyhow. Noted about WC bowl.
  3. Poss a daft question, but how do i drain the calorifier? I understand about draining the system down via the taps but will this drain the calorifier ? I assumed it did but from some posts above it appears to be a separate task ? Also have a pump out, tank is empty but is it wise to drain WC bowl and put cloths in it to prevent smells coming back up ?
  4. Back to the smell from poo tank issue... measured up tank and having specified a 320 litre, i got a 220 litre....no wonder its filling so quickly. Getting p***ed off with this lot now.
  5. Interesting read, we have a new boat with macerator pump out and despite being 300 litres, disapointed at how soon it fills up, must be our age, but also more disapointing, the smell. A plastic smell, rather than drains, which morfs into drain smell as it gets full. We have ditched the blue and using Tesco oxy power stain remover as suggested in another thread. Assume this adds oxygen to the mix and starts the aerobic action. How often do we add this ? Incidentally the pipes are plastic rather than metal which seems to be the norm
  6. They fixed mine via an exhaust clamp fixed to underside of deck . This gave it more angle. No swan neck.
  7. Thanks for suggestions. Er indoors double flushes all the time as sometimes we are " getting our own back " on eco flush. The smell is a putrid but plastic smell, not just drains. Inside only, stick my nose down the outside tube and no smell except blue. I have taken bed up looked underneath with camera. Dry sawdust on floor suggests no leak . First thought was vent pipe was poor fit. They say no...and they put gaffer tape round it. But it is also coming from wardrobe, where filter is. They have replaced 2 NR valve, saying i need to empty it more often. Guage still only indicates half full on the 8 th day. Smell is also not consistent, sometimes worse than other times. Pipes are wrapped in Vetus Sanitary hose. Begining to wish had joined cassette brigade
  8. Just an update, all snagging work done with no quibble. Exhaust realined and now having decent fall. One new problem however is waste tank smell. No amount of Blue will cure it. Guage says only half full. Also was expecting it to last longer than 6 days with 300 litre capacity tank
  9. Thanks for confirming my fears. I will update you when i can. It goes back in 2 weeks for snagging works, they have not disagreed with any of my complaints so hopefully all will be sorted
  10. Cant say but it is oftEn Likened TO a dessert oNe May enjOy . ThiS iS part of snagging list i am compiling ( and no, I know where caps lock is 😄)
  11. My new boat has a canaline 38 engine. In conversation with another owner i noticed the exhaust runs level, then down to exhaust manifold. Without a rise in pipe from the point it exits the hull, is there not a possibility water could run in and straight down into exhaust manifold, causing engine to hydraulic and seize ? Surely it should have an intial rise to allow water to drain back out ? Any thoughts please ?
  12. Just picked up my new Elton Mos / Northwich Boat Company NB from Kings Lock this week and delighted with it so far. Ok, yes have only done 7 hours.... Two months late but guess thats normal in todays world and a few things to go on snagging list but no quibbles when i raised them. Overall finish is good a few comments but PM me if you are considering one.
  13. Foxes have just released vlog re-capping the launch of " the most famous narrowboat on the canal " what an arogant pair of t***ts
  14. In the words of Arkwright.. " de de de how much !!???
  15. Buying a boat off a vlogger has its advantages. You can trawl through hours of vlogs to see its history and any major problems it may have had. Foxes were always vague about their new boat but as i said previously i have not followed them. I do find them false and irritating. What was their motive for misleading everyone ? Perhaps if Elton Moss have taken over Bickerstaffe then they have been told to go away?
  16. Best of luck to him. David's were the first vlogs i watched when considering a narrowboat. Always well produced, entertaining and informative. None of it in a " look what i have done and this is how you should do it " manner but in an often self deprecating way. The Foxes i can watch in small doses only but as said in earlier post, Narrowboat Pirate is another i enjoy, plenty of humour and inuendos in a " Carry on up the cut " style. There are some however who simply should not be allowed a camera. No, i will miss Crusing the Cut and best of luck to him for the future.

    Toilets!

No one has mentioned an incinerator.
  18. 2 pages into this thread and yet very little relevant replies to the OP question. Well, are they any good ?
  19. Thanks for speedy reply. Have been offered 2 options, both with macerator a 210 litre tank under centre of bed, 2nd option, 25 % smaller tank with identical size tank alongside holding water for flushing, these both positioned on port side , it allows more storage under bed without the need for re trimming as tank fills. ( one empties and the other fills up thus keeping boat trimmed. ) I like the idea but it does give smaller capacity. Am thinking forget under bed storage and go for bigger water tank
  20. Looking at old threads and found this. What is the size of normal waste tank ? I have gone for pump out on my new boat, in build, as it is a holiday boat and cost of £16 or so every 10 days cruising is fine with me. This is based on frequency I had on last boat, though am unsure of that ones capacity. The new boat has, I think 210 litres. How long should this last 2 of us ? At 5 litres per flush, ( am thinking domestic loos here ) that's 40 flushes or so.
  21. The search continues. Looked at new build yesterday, 2nd fix completed, buyer not come up with funds. Impressed with workmanship inside. Externally it was in primer only and in the water, hull not blacked. Is this good practice ?
  22. Ok, i am a nubie yes, 12 months ago decide i would like a canal boat and what a journey it has been. A little about me, i have bought, renovated and sold houses all my life. I can value a house as well as an estate agent. Have also bought property abroad, tital deeds etc all checked through correct channels. I guess am valuing boats differently. I dont know a Liverpool boat from a Stoke boat but i do recognise quality of woodwork and finishing. Neither of these boats yesterday had this. My other passion is classic cars, again i have a good feel for their value, history, provenance etc. 20 years ago I gained a pilots licence, every plane had a tech log, history and paperwork supporting its stated history. Canal boats....jeez....I read the New to Boating forum and hear of people putting their life savings into a 60ft floating chunk of steel, often bought for cash on side of canal, no paperwork, history or at best a survey full of caviets.. Should there not be more regulation? Brokers....were do i start..... On one of the boats yesterday, could not switch on any of domestic electrics. Out of boat, into office and told broker, who, hands in his pockets said " yeh I think the batteries are flat on that one " You knew I was coming, why was it not made ready for viewing. If you want your 6% earn it !, Also yesterday I had an induction from guys operating canal boat for disabled. I am giving my time to them. Their passion and enthusiasm completly different. Rant over.
  23. Best delivery date I have is July '22, this is for new, off the peg boat circa 105K. Incl VAT . Take off 20% VAT and we have around 84K nett. Today I have seen 2 boats, 20 years and 8 years old respectively at 75K. Where is the logic?
  24. Just been to view 2 boats today. No end of photos and gushing descriptions on AD can replace actually standing aboard the boat. Both today's were vastly overpriced. When broker recieved my honest feedback, there was a shrug as if " yes, sorry thats what owner thinks its worth " they had been on brokerage for a month or so. Am thinking some owners feel they can wack up the price in return for free mooring whilst on brokers books. Another thought, would you really loose much on new boat? If it was off the peg rather than bespoke, then am beginning to think maybe you wouldn't
