And 'narrowboat twist' where you walk with one shoulder slightly forward to squeeze down the corridor.

"Slightly" ? Me and my wife do the sideways limbo windmill dance to get down the corridor

Sagar, they built that wonderfully bonkers boat "EDITH" with all the wonderful victorian 'stonemasonry' style detailing.

Sold in the end to some pillockj who changed the name to "Belly Button".

    Gross and tasteless.

"Belly Button" haha that's made my Monday at work a little bit better!

    They are stitched.

Once canvas (and the stitching) gets wet it swells up and seals the stitching holes.

Its the same on all canvas covers - they will leak for the first rain shower but afterwards become watertight.

That's actually very good advice , my wife used to work in a caravan showroom ....she told me the amount of people that would buy a brand new awning and then come storming into the office complaining it leaked on the first rainy day,

My wife then had to explain to them about how it needs to swell and it would leak the first time.

  4. Bit touchy chap , apologies it seems my Google doesn't seem to be as good as yours about the numbers.

I only talk about narrowboats because isn't that what this thread is about,I also didn't mention lorries or vans or ships......see what I mean.

My whole point is narrowboats are a very small number compared to the big picture.

    Cheers.

So Tempest Diesels  2.5..  Its a fair age. Spares  are getting a bit sparse.

Can still get the starter motors , alternators .....filters / belts , other than that .....calcutt boats might help :)

  6. Hi everyone

I have a BMC Engine in my narrowboat , a receipt from years ago says it's a 2.4 commander , the brochure from GHBS says it's a 2.2 BMC.

We have owned the boat for a year now and I have just recently cleaned the whole engine bay ready for painting.........I found a metal plate with a serial number on it ......it was inside of one of the engine support girders on the floor right in the corner

Is this the engine serial number plate please?

    Cheers

I was told this year that CaRT don't issue 30 day explorer licences any more and ended up with a 3 month licence.

They gave me a 30 day Explorer licence this year , our boat is in a marina that doesn't require the full licence , we use the explorer licence for trips on to the Trent and Mersey canal system.

Ring them again and make sure you don't take no for an answer.

I'm in a licence free marina. If I'm going out I buy a three month license and then extend it if I need more. I declare the boat off water when I'm back.

I told CART if I'm out and extend ..I have no way of printing it and they've said that's fine as display isn't essential. They've ' walkers,' don't look for a licence..they just enter your boat number.

You can buy an Explorer licence for £170 that gives you 30 days to use per year on the CRT waters at your own leisure.

Might be cheaper than the 3 month licence you mention......I learned this from a CRT phone conversation earlier this year.
