  2. Any recommendations on tried and tested methods, what is best to use? We had trouble with our 'Aquafilter' so removed it. So thought maybe good idea to treat the tank before this years cruising. Can anyone on here give any recs that they use and are happy with? Do you add to tank, leave. then empty flush through etc before refilling, how long before re-treating? Are there any ones that you can add without empting and refilling... do they taste? Any replies would be very appreciated before purchasing the wrong thing. Thanks
  3. I second that post saltysplash... hubby is a retired Thames Waterman & Lighterman, and as I was reading the first post he echoed what you had posted about the 'rope or cable' lol
  4. Had 3 new batteries 2 months ago. As was worried just in case one of those was to blame had them checked out by a marine lecky eng. He said all ok couldnt find any losses and said bats ok but they were showing a low read out. Also put engine up to 2k revs and checked the alternator/s and said they were not putting out what they should be!! But as we cannot run at these revs all the time cruising so maybe its the alternator/s letting us down.. dunno. But I know the fridge is working more on than off and taking whats going into batts out again.. Is it the fridge... as 6 years old now... or is it the alternator/s. Either way its driving me nuts Why cant life be simple lol
  5. mine is not flashing at moment..when it did flash think there was 3 flashes then pause then 3 again, but the fridge does seem to be running more now.. ie doesnt seem to be OFF much now. At the back of mine there is a large gap in the flooring giving ventilation through the bilge.. as wondered if there was enough vent around the fridge. But the bit I cant understand is if the fridge has been ok up until now.. how come 6 years on it seems to be playing up now? Mine like Tony's doesnt seem to be getting any colder ie NOT frosting up more. But think where is is running more often (even though its only on 2 setting) its lowering the bats every day now and have to keep the engine running to keep up with the damn thing.
  6. Our fridge having same sort of probs, motor keeps starting up all the time, I toggle the switch and off it goes.. then on it comes!!! But more worrying is that think it is running bats down.. Had fridge now 6 years now. But new ones quite expensive to buy.. and expect an engineer call out to check it out again would be expensive plus any parts needed .. so dont know whats best route to take.. any ideas would be most welcome.
  7. Tks Gibbo. Martyn has passed on David's details and I have just phoned and left him a msg.. hopefully he will sort this boat and electrics out for us... as its driving me 'nuts'
  8. Hi as post asks... need to find a marine electrics engineer and pronto. 2 months ago fitted 3 new 135ah batts and since we have been out we seem not to be holding up. I had a hydrometer which was small.. but unfortunately I broke it. As my knowledge is limited concerning power/electrics on boats need to find someone that does know what my problems are and tell me whats what. So as I'm in the Braunston/Hillmorton/Rugby area anyone know who can help me out pse as fed up with sitting in the dark as dont want to lose my fridge Tks in advance guys
  9. We are moored at Bodymoor Heath and have been alerted by a BW man that further down the canal at Minworth vandals have drained the pounds and there may be a possible "Breach"!! Have also heard on the morning radio that the road is flooded at Minworth (saying that canal runs by the road here..adding that the flooded road may be caused by the overnight rain.. dont think so)!! Bw are trying to stop boats coming up the canal, presume from the Junction at Fradley. I would advise anyone travelling this way to get in touch with BW Fradley offices to confirm any more details. I have also listed this thread on the STOPPAGES PAGE OF THE FORUM

  11. Tks for all the replies so far. As I cant remember what my last Bss in total cost (I know it has just gone up) what is the charge is now? My last guy was local so I wasnt charged for travelling etc. or if I had needed a re-test done (which I didnt), he said he wouldnt charge me extra should that have been the case.
  12. Soon I will need my 2nd safety cert done and my last guy has now retired, so will be looking for a recommendation within the Lichfield area? Having heard/read that surveyors vary so much.. meaning, some will split hairs and nit pick everything while others will do all the major checks which obviously is just plain sense and what I would expect him to do. So can anyone suggest a contact from first hand experience that they felt very pleased with and would definitely use again? Or do I just pick a few names within a radius of the boat throw them all in a hat and pick one out at random and hope for the best?

  14. Hi everyone, and Happy New Year. If anyone has the jabsco water filter on their boats have you tried this kit (filterpac) to recharge the filter, and is it easy to do? Jabsco Recharge Kit This is the recharge kit for the Jabsco Aqua Filter. This kit allows you to refill the Jabsco cartridge and re-use it time after time at a fraction of the cost. Cos think if it does work, it would be a less expensive option than keep buying the replacement cartridge each time. Any advice/help appreciated.
  15. Well... disagree with the statement 'noisier' as ours is so QUIET that when we passed some contractors on the cut they said.. wow is that engine electric as didnt hear you coming!!! Even had the rcr engineers say the same.. quiet engine that!! Think this debate will go on and on lol.
  16. We have a Lombardini 1404 in our boat and very pleased with it. (Had said engine now 5yrs). We have been told in the past 'if you ever have any major probs consider having another make/engine replacement'. Strangely, have just asked the Lombardini service agents what the cost would be for a cambelt service to be done. awaiting their reply.
  17. Hi all. Havent been on here for a while, but hoping that you maybe able to point me in the right direction for help. I need to replace my dinette table top as the veneer has lifted, caused by condensation dripping from the houdini hatch above. This was done when I got the boat, and although I cover it up now fraid damage already done. So can anyone help,or know of anyone with the skills to make a new one, price etc., recommendations? It is quite sturdy as it also used to support the double bed when made up. Rougly meas 48" x 29" ish, with an edging around. Any help would be most welcome.
  18. Hi Kristian I found out last year that this cooker was no longer available when the oven control knob decided to seize up. Looked at a 'Spinflo' (dont know who makes it), which I was told was the built in equivalent as a possible replacement, but so small in comparison to the Vanette it was a joke!!!! What's gone wrong with yours??
  19. Hi. Need help with the exact size of the ash pan that goes under my stove. As I'm not on the boat to measure it (if I was guess it would be too HOT to carry out this exercise at mo. Need to know as think I've found an Ash tidy for the hot embers, but don't want a huge box for an ordinary home open fire. Any help would be very much appreciated.
