  1. I would create a fund to support pubs - it's heartbreaking to think how many will not be able to reopen due to lockdown.

    Boat bar

Spotted this classic kitsch piece on eBay. Made me chuckle and thought it could be fun for someone missing their boat due to lockdown ? (and no, there is no accounting for taste before you say it!) Fossedyke stoppage

Damn. Fortunately the works outside the university accomodation that would have trapped boats in the Brayford has been postponed.
  4. I think I recall seeing that there were only going to be two programmes (for now) - part one and part two. Shame, I would happily watch more.
  5. I have no idea what pie liquor is and was surprised to see it was green on GCJ last night! ? Not proper East End pies and no jellied eels on the menu either but very nice pie and mash nonetheless (not bad for the North East eh Alan?! ??). Ps shall check my cook books for liquor so I can have a go. Just found this Hairy Bikers recipe on BBC good food, looks like the liquor is a type of parsley jus https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/traditional_pie_n_mash_76469/amp
  6. It still is and they've been selling takeout pies during lockdown ?
  7. Thank you, Tony, for this clear and practical advice. We will add this to our list of winter jobs.
  8. Excuse my ignorance but how would you go about this?
  9. Think you are right. Even appears so from the interior pix.
  10. Nice looking boat. From the blurb has it not had new anodes since 2003, although blacked in 2018?
  11. I thought it was lovely and a great tribute. When clearing my grandma's house several years ago we found Royal Albert Hall 'Festival of Empire' (as it was called then) programmes from 1936 & 7, when my grandad sang the boys' solo as head chorester at St Paul's Cathedral school. The programmes still had red petals inside that he had collected as they fell. Very moving. He went on to become an RAF pilot and survived the war but was killed in an air crash in the 50s.
  12. Our purchase took less than 2 weeks at the start of the summer. We were very lucky to get a lift-out, surveyor booked and blacking slot the week after our offer was accepted. However it did take us another 3-4 weeks to get essential jobs done before we could use the boat. Good luck with your purchase.
  13. Sounds like you are thoroughly fed up with things at the mo. Personally I would be grateful if my brother gave up his time to travel and bring me diesel when we only have a few days till lockdown, when all but essential travel for work is banned. I live in Lincoln and am happy to come and pick you up tomorrow to go and fetch diesel, go to a shop if it helps. Hate to think of you feeling isolated. Message me here if I can help.
  14. O'h is watched MotD. One of the pundits just commented on a player's "whippage on his ball"! Now that's an image I cannot get out of my head! ? (Not being smutty - that was said on Match of the Day just after I saw the picture!)
  15. No I dont think so. If she looked like your picture she must have been quite a force to reckon with!
  16. If it was very accurate and finely detailed it might be a supermodel.
  17. Hi Martin. I see you have just joined - welcome to the forum. Hopefully you will find it useful and interesting. I certainly have as a newbie boater. There is a wealth of knowledge and experience here - there is not a lot these guys/gals don't know about all things boats and boating. A few hours spent browsing the threads will probably show you that YouTube vloggers are not always particularly well regarded, with a few noteable exceptions. Please don't take it personally and good luck with the new job.
  18. What lovely helpful chaps you are. A credit to the boating community. What a different experience that young boater would have had if he had hadn't been lucky enough to come across you.
  19. We were extremely lucky in that we got to accompany our boat on a 7 hour cruise from its home marina to the lift-out marina where we were having its out-of-water survey (and we appreciate this was unusually lucky). This gave plenty of time to test drive and try everything out. Uncovered several issues that the surveyor had initially missed during the in-water survey. Even if you only have a 10 minute test drive you should still try out everything you can (hob, oven, loo, water pump, shower, fridge, sockets, heating etc). About the only thing we didn't do was light the logburner! Do not rely on your surveyor to find everything and try and be there while the survey is taking place.
  20. That is really good advice. However, I wonder how many people fall in love with a boat and then take it on trust that a brokers' conditions will be fair and reasonable? We didn't buy our boat through a broker but I hold my hands up to ticking the "I have read the T&Cs box" on an online purchase when I haven't really. Saying that at least one is protected through the Distance Selling regulations when buying online, whereas there are precious few safeguards when buying through a broker.
  21. Who did your made-to-measure plastic tanks? We are considering this route.
