  1. In this day and age with the easy and cheap availability of cordless angle grinders, even the best chain and padlock is no deterrent at all. Especially for the career generator thieves operating on the canal network.
  2. But the OP wanted something simple that can store to a memory card. Blink cameras need wifi (and potentially a subscription), not ideal on a mooring with limited power options.
  3. Potentially. You can get camo external battery boxes that you can secreat further up the tree....some even have built in solar to trickle charge the battery. If you want it to be invisible, you need a camera with 900nm wavelength IR lighting, which is invisible to the human eye. Standard IR lighting that most trail cams have are quite noticeable in pitch dark with their red glow.
  4. PM sent. I have a Browning wildlife camera that while a bit pricey, is very reliable and produces good images. I use it for wildlife rather than security. Whatever wildlife camera you use, I'd advise looking for a model with a 12v input socket to allow you to power it from an external source. AA batteries don't last long at all. I power mine with a 12ah sealed lead acid battery, and it lasts for months.
  5. Ah, I'll pick your brains, should I get a Honda eu10 or eu22?..... ......I'll get my coat.
  6. No issues with locks. The only issue is some of the winding holes are shorter than 68ft (55-65ft), but there are plenty of 72ft winding holes.
  7. I guess the more relevant issue is how often do you charge your batteries in winter? Obviously your solar does it during the spring/summer/autumn but what do you do in the winter? If you cruise or run your engine every day then I’d have thought 200Ah of lead acid would be sufficient, but if you want to last a few days between charging you’re going to need a much bigger battery bank. (Observing the 50% discharge rule to avoid knackering the batteries)

  11. Realism and youtube don't naturally go hand in hand, as creators need views to make money and hence be entertaining. Having said that Cruising the cut is quite good, especially his earlier videos. After he sold his boat he lost his way a little and his channel struggled....he seemed to be less relevant somehow which wasn't helped when his channel suddenly got very commercialised. However now he has a GRP cruiser I feel things are improving. Another one I enjoy is https://www.youtube.com/@NarrowboatJourneys. I don't really watch his cruising videos but do enjoy his Vlog and tips videos. Having lived aboard for over 30 years he has some very interesting stories and tells them well, including how isolating and lonely it can be living alone on a boat as a cc'er....he says it how it is.
  12. Yeah but no-one is living on that lake to breathe in the PM2.5 so it's probs ok.
  13. That's awful. The whole reason the regulation was introduced was after that baby got killed when an immersion stuck on in a vented system and the tank in the loft melted and failed.
  14. All domestic immersion heaters in the UK have required a thermostat and a separate non self resetting thermal cutout since at least 2009.
  15. This is extraordinary, the level of detail is phenomenal.
  16. Indeed. And the OP hasn't visited the site for 24hrs so I think we can safely say another new member has been scared off.
  17. Don't the next Government's mates just live in North London instead?!
  18. 284 deaths per year in a population of almost 9 million might not be enough to persuade to government to act.
  19. A great dog. Loved by many and will be missed by more. Very sorry to hear this, I know exactly what you are going through and it's terrible. 😔
  20. Yes.......don't. Some winters you can make this sort of trip (dry ones), this winter isn't one of them. Not to mention the state of the River Kennet, which is way above red board level, so it'll probably need 6 weeks of no rain for the levels to come down.
  21. I totally agree with your approach. If it was a 12v caravan TV it would be fine but I do find a lot of home electronics these days happen to be 12v...my freesat box and router both are and were never designed to run from an unregulated automotive type 12v supply.
  22. This bit demonstrates nicely why you shouldn't stand within the tiller arc in these situations!
  23. A little late, but I only just heard the sad news that Masayuki Tayama passed away on 22nd September 2023.
