Looking at adding some panels to the boat this year, we have a Vetus combi gamma inverter - Vetus have a solar charger for £389 for the 40A version - currently out of stock. Does anyone know if its possible to use a different brand of solar controller with this inverter or do i have to stick with the Vetus brand?
cheers
so just got back after 4 days away. before we left dropped a tiny amount into the header tank so i could just see it. checked after 2 hours and it was up to the MIN mark, after 5 hours up to the MAX mark. overnight back down to the very bottom of the header tank and no new coolant in bilge. seems it was over full and the header tank really acts as an expansion. cheers all for you help
so do i keep topping up? i've not got time to find it now and we have family coming for a trip out to replace our cancelled holiday.....
its a vetus VH4.80
engine / boat is only 2 years old with only 160 hours on it. header tank i usually fill to the minimum mark but its empty right now. only fill when tank is empty hence asking before i refill before we set off tomorrow
so....a few weeks ago i found a pool of coolant under the engine block. we had not fired her up in a while so i suspected a leak. did the whole mop it all up to dry, kitchen roll everywhere. running the engine - took her out for a good hour to warm her up and nothing, not another drop.
been keeping an eye on the header tank and all was fine until we took her out yesterday in that massive heat, 7 hours through the main part of the day - had to go and get toilet repaired.
thought i'd best check again this morning once cooled and lo and behold - header tank empty and pool of pink coolant under engine again. on releasing the coolant cap on the top of the engine it spills out from there so it seems there is coolant still in the system.
so my question is this...
have i got an issue or is it the system overflowing once the engine gets really hot? we are going out for 4 days tomorrow so i need some idea if i need to keep topping up or if its actually been overfilled. i know with a cars the header tank for the coolant should always be at least up to the minimum mark - is this the same for boat engines? or have i overfilled the system?
cheers in advance
we are refitting our bathroom and basically if someone can use the pump out system we are removing they are welcome to take it away for free. it includes the toilet macerator and holding tank. i just need to hand to get it all out.
we are in the loughborough area and it is listed on ebay here

cheers
right dug out manual, checked fuel intake - thats fine, checked for water and air in system and there was none - its a self bleeding system and i checked that was working as well.
checked oil, coolant etc again all fine, engine still just spins splutters then doesnt start.
hey ho, have to find a man who can now once this silly business is all over
thanks for all the advice
So - we got the boat in November and apart from a couple of trips to the pump out it seems i've neglected to start my engine regularly. tried last week, got it started but with lots of smoke and smelly diesel. then it cut out. been asking around at the marina and someone suggested it might have had water in the system - drained that after finding you tube help yesterday and tried again but engine will not kick in.
really sluggish trying to start just seems like it wants to then cuts out. its an 80hp Vetus engine, i dont want to knacker it and currently cant get anyone out to have a look. it only has 153 hours on the engine and coolant levels are fine and ive checked fuel levels with a dipstick. thats fine as well
does anyone have bright ideas as to what i can try next?
cheers
Thanks all. Manned up and emptied the bowl this morning will whack a load of oust down there today and leave it for a while to see what happens. Luckily have a portapotti for emergencies.
Just out of interest how much would it cost to strip out the pump.out system and replace with a cassette. I'm in Leicestershire and would need some knee to do it for us.
Cheers
We have a vetus pump out toilet that seems to be blocked and back filling
We know the tank isn't full as we can see the level in it. We dont use it for solids and only a 2 sheets of paper at any one use. Two things really.
Any idea how to unblock it
Any idea how to stop it blocking?
Cheers
