Where to buy lister alternator pulley?
boatboatboat replied to boatboatboat's topic in Boat Equipment
The alternator pulley is 2.5" so that will give me a ratio of approx 1:4.7 using a 12" drive pulley. I have no idea what RPM I usually cruise at but it will be low. 400rpm? so 200 at the camshaft will give approx 938 at the alternator. -
Where to buy lister alternator pulley?

Thanks looks like some good options there Do you think this will be a big enough of a step up? or would I need to go further with another set of pulleys? or a more suitable alternator if there is such a thing -
Hi All, My Lister SR3 alternator doesn't produce any current at low revs so I would like to upgrade the pulley to get it spinning faster. I think a 12" will just fit on the end of the shaft. The alternator will then have to be mounted forward of its current position. Is this a good plan? Where can I source pulleys (12, 11 inch) for this? the shaft is 1.5" Thanks

Hopefully that should be ok - as the Alde will only really be used if the Webasto breaks down. I've added a balance valve on the flow of the Alde to reduce the water circulating through it rather than the end radiator? I guess it also has an advantage of adding extra capacity for Webasto to work with too. Unfortunately a small section of the pipework is inaccesible without removing the shower.

I believe so yes, might have the flow and return the wrong way around but that is what it looks like. Thats a good point. Do I need a an isolation valve on the flow and return or just one? If just one would the expansion tank still work for both? I was thinking I would just adjust the valves on the radiators themselves?

I would be working with about 7 - 11" clearance so sounds like a double wall may work for this. Do you happen to have any links or details of the parts you used for this? I still haven't really found information relating to the double wall through the roof except for the kits.
-
The reason I thought I would likely need a section of 4" double wall is I need to route the flue close to a window / blind. I guess this is part that confuses me - would I then pass this into a 6" roof collar? which a chimney attaches to as normal? Alternatively could I use a single wall - and put exhaust wrap for protection?

The Salamander narrowboat flue kit is £585! Which is more than the Hobbit stove it goes with. Is this normal / to be expected? https://salamanderstoves.com/product/canal-boat-small-stove-kit/ Can anyone point me to a more cost effective solution? I think I will need a twin wall section as the flue will pass close to a window and walkway. Could I for instance source the complete kit from here: https://www.fluesupplies.com/twin-wall-insulated/4-inch-system.html Or should I be looking at something like this? https://www.limekilnchandlers.co.uk/multifuel-fires-fitting-kit.html Thanks

I don't think I can access the drain holes for the gearbox or reduction - I assume they are underneath? Would it be bad to pump it out from the dipstick tubes? Also am I likely to have an engine oil filter that needs replacing?

Hello, Does anyone know if a Webasto Thermo Top Evo 4/5 is a good option for a narrowboat? The fact it can modulate the power down to 2.5kW sounds like it should be? Or would I be better off getting the Thermo Top C which seems to be more common? Thanks

They look very nice - easy to get carried away with all the upgrades available!

In the bathroom walls? I guess they would have to be large slow moving ones in the hope of being quiet - but again starting to over complicate things. This is good to know. So I should look for the smallest stove possible. Or consider a small diesel cabin heater instead?

Hi Jen, Thanks for the suggestions! Kitchen is a neat idea but there are already radiators on the port side shown in the first diagram (connected to an alde comfort 2928 gas boiler) which I would like to keep as an alternative heat source and I think I really would like the stove in the living / bedroom area. It may be possible to have some additional radiators on the starboard side but I think I'd quite like to keep the stove simple this time. Next boat will definitely have a gravity fed system. Maybe I could install a large fan moving warm air into the bathroom and another moving on forward into the kitchen area...?

Hello. I would like to install a wood burning stove in my reverse layout 40ft cruiser stern narrowboat. My current plan is to remove the large fold out sofa bed and install a cross bed and stove as shown below: Is this a good plan? Ideally I would have something that would stay in all night and have a glass viewing window: Pipsqueak Faversham The Hobbit Morso 1410 - too big? Would any of these be suitable? Do I have any chance of the heat making its way down the small corridor to the kitchen area? Thanks for any advice!

My manual says every 1000 hours for the gearbox and every 250 for the engine. If I found myself needing to top up could I use these in a pinch? Engine - Halfords 15W40 Part Synthetic Oil 5L Gearbox / Reduction - Halfords Gear Oil EP 80W/90 GL-4 1L

Hello, I've seen various recommendations for different oils to use with a Lister SR3 & LH 150 - and just want to double check I have understood correctly that this is the best combo: Engine - Morris Golden Film SAE 30 Classic Motor Oil Gearbox / Reduction - Morris Golden Film 80W-90 Classic Gear Oil Or should I be using something else?? Cheers, D
