What a friendly thread this is.....! ?

When I joined this forum I thought that it seemed a most useful and interesting resource, how wrong could I have been!!!!Having just read through the best part of 10 pages of mostly sheer crap and pathetic points scoring between people I am now left wondering why I bothered joining...... I am a little confused by the lack of concern shown about license evasion, after all, the fees from such help keep the waterways running which is odd as many other coments I have read on this forum involve the continual knocking of BW for not repairing or doing this that or other............. figure it out. Anyway, I have more pressing things to do than be looking at a bitching and whinging forum like this one, life's too short.... Adios, Mike

Well we have bought it! Went for an hours cruise on it and it seems ideal, we shall be collecting it in a couple of weeks time. It turns out it has a 12mm base plate which can be no bad thing! Needs a little tidying up around the edges and a lick of paint but she is in fine mechanical order, the engine looks like it's brand new. The owner changes the oil every 150-200 hours, a very particular gentleman who likes things to be looked after and has owned narrowboats for over 40 years, an ideal person to buy a boat from I suppose!

Cheers, I certainly will, the boat seems to have had very little use and only one owner from new, just been used a few times a year so I should think she has done very few hours, being a beta unit I dont expect to find too much wrong!

Going to have a second look at this boat tomorrow and hear it running as keys weren't available last time, will let you all know how we get on, things seem very promising so far anyway. Cheers, Mike

Cheers for the welcome and responses guys. We are going to have another look at the boat on Sunday having only been able to have a brief look at it last week, all being well a deposit will be placed. It seems a bargain though, so I had ought to tread carefully just incase there is a reason why!!!

Hi all, we had a quick look at this boat yesterday with a view to buying it: It is believed to be a Dave Clarke build in 1992. We have yet to get as far as a survey, just a brief viewing so far, do you think it would be a 6 or 10mm base plate when built? and if it was 6mm do you think it may need re-plating by now? I haven't found too much reference to Dave Clarke boat builders on the web, are they still trading and did/do they have a good reputation for quality work? The boat has a 30HP Beta engine fitted, BSC untill mid 2010 and was last blacked late 2005. It seems that a family bereavement is the reason for sale and she has been left for about 6 months with little attention. Any info about the builders would be greatly appreciated, Cheers, Mike
