  1. Can someone point me to a good thread or provide detailed description of good hand painting the exterior of a steel narrowboat [above water], not sprayed. Preparation procedure including removing minor rust spots Primer and or undercoat recommended Topcoat recommended Types of brush or roller Rod
  2. Its a sweet honey of a steel hull Narrow Boat and worth the extra effort. Rod
  3. With my new barge, I am having trouble perfecting docking alongside with my center helm narrow boat. 54ft long, the helm and where I need to step ashore is actually 1/3 the way back from the front. This means I really need to be perfectly parallel to the bank when I step ashore. With the center of turning half way, as the front comes in, the back goes out and vise-versa. I like to pride myself with good boat handling but docking with my new boat is hard to master. Any suggestions please.
  4. I am liking the look of the Macclesfield Canal but would prefer to be in a marina, separated from the canal. Heritage Marina has a lot of promise Rod
  5. I am looking for a marina for long term storage of my 54ft narrowboat that is within 40 miles of Manchester Airport. I would prefer the marina to have boat repair person on staff and located in a rural setting. Prefer to be on the south side of Manchester so it is closer to the main canal network. Suggestions please.
  6. Frederick II built by Roger Fuller
  7. Under the canvas and plastic is a full wood and glass cabin structure
  8. I am concerned about the wheel house roof, how high it is above the water line and how often it will need to be lowered for bridges and tunnels. I saw a video of a similar roof and how it was operated and it appears to be a big ordeal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqBX49wObqM
  9. Not decided which marina I will use for the boat I am purchasing but is it normal to take the boat out of the water for the winter and if so does the monthly rate go down? Rod
  10. I know this is an old topic but I am hoping I can resurrect it. Frederick II is currently in the Scarisbrick Marina near Southport on the L&L and is for sale. I am very interested in purchasing and would like to know if there is any new information about this vessel
  11. I am looking for anyone who has a boat at the Scasbrick marina near Southport or lives in the area.
