  1. Ah okay, worth knowing. I think there may be a 50/50 chance of this working then! Failing that it might be a prop change. The original engine was a kingfisher but was in a very poor condition unfortunately. Thanks again
  2. Hi, thanks for the quick reply. The prop is 14 inch, three blade, r/h bronze. Of the top of my head but will check survey report now. Just checked and that was correct. Also it is on a 1.25 inch diameter stainless steel drive shaft. Just incase that changes anything.
  3. Hi all,This is my first post so firstly hello, secondly apologies for the long post and hoping I am in the right place.I am trying to identify what I'm told is a Lister SR1. The only details I can find are a number: 10760SR115, a hp rating of 6.5 and rpm 2000.This engine was bought by my father to fit in his 23ft narrowboat which I have been refitting for him, the wood work and all inside is complete so we are now turning back towards the engine to get him going. He had someone attempt to fit this some time back and at best the job was questionable. (it was a freebie done by one of his neighbours)Having had a quick look myself it looked like he struggled to get the engine in line because it sat very low on the bearers.I have had a local marine specialist have a look and got some advice. The specialist has said the install isn't great but could work with some tinkering. Firstly he suggested getting a 2:1 final reduction gearbox on it as it is running 1:1 at the moment I believe. He suggested a python or aqua drive to get the final alignment correct although this could possibly be corrected if the reduction gearbox lifts the height enough to get some clearance. He also said the prop might be a bit big to swing on the 1:1 as it's a 14" three blade. Oh and lastly that the rotation of this engine may be an issue as they don't like running in reverse for long periods (putting gearbox in reverse I mean/not running engine backwards) although we are not sure which rotation it actually is!My aim is to identify the engine and gearbox, then price up and get some measurements from a final drive to see if this is viable. Can anybody help at all with either advice for fitment, parts identity or anything else that might be relevant. Thanks
  4. Hi all, hope I'm in the right place. I have been given a bit of a mission by my father in law who has recently purchased a narrowboat with a broken engine. I have a mechanical background in small plant so hopefully will be able to work something out with a bit of luck and help. This boat had/has a kingfisher 8hp single pot engine with an unknown gearbox and a 14" rh 3 blade prop on a 1.25" shaft via a flexable coupling. I would like to buy a second hand engine for his boat with minimal works to fit it if possible. The boat is a 23ft so somewhere around 6tonne? At a guess. So my question is: is there anything that would fit fairly easily into the engine bay? Where I come unstuck is: How to ascertain the gearbox ratio without it in front of me. Are engine mounts universal or should adapter plates be used. Is the crankshaft output height consistant with marine engines for narrowboats. Will the output shaft need adapting for length to the flexible coupler. Can this be done, if very carefully, in the water without damage to the stern gland. Am I looking at this all wrong. The original engine was keel cooled. Thanks in advance. I know its a long shot and hope not to cause offence.
