  1. Thank you. That is exactly what I was assuming.
  2. OK, so is it true that it cost more in London area that it would in the Midlands or North?
  3. Curiosity question here, trying to learn as much as I can. We are not ready to buy a boat but we still watch the online ads really close. Yesterday we saw our boat. This one ticked off every box and even a few I didn't know I wanted. If we were there, we would have left right then for London to see it. Assuming it checked out I think we would have bought it. Being in London it got me wondering how hard, if at all, it would be to arrange for a survey? And how much more, if any, would it cost being in London? Everything I read says services are cheap the further North you go. Would I be right in assuming that London would be the most expensive place to haul out and have a survey done? I have always assumed I would find a boat in the Midland area but obviously you never know where that right boat will pop up.
  4. That depends on which side of the pond you are on. ?
  5. I really need to start writing my proposed 'English to English' dictionary. Had to use Google UK on that one. In the states it is known as a Hand Truck. Anyway the wife and I had this conversation this morning. I have a 'sack-barrow' I converts to a flat cart and even has extra fold out wheels that it will lean back on. Very versatile and very handy. Mine doesn't have big pneumatic ties but with those this would be a really good choice. They make many styles including folding versions that would be easy to store. Finding one along the canal might be hard though.
  6. Pilots say "any landing you can walk away from is a good landing". I wouldn't sweat it, your boat is safe and no one got hurt. Plus you are a lot wiser! Hard to say what you should have done since we were not there but again, your boat is safe and no one got hurt.
  7. I recently did this to someone by mistake. I use the same user name on many forums but there was one my user name was taken so I had to use something else. Went back after a couple of months and forgot I used a different user name. Tried repeatedly to log in, did the recover password thing which never came to my email. Finally figured out that it wasn't my account! So I am sure that fellow thought I was trying to hack his account.
  8. Yup. I am petrol head and I really like to put a mechanical pressure switch on the engine in addition to the one in the car. You can double check the readings and it is reassuring to be working on the motor and see the oil pressure while you are tuning. I added a fuel pressure gage in the engine bay for the same reason. You can sometimes see a probably starting before you feel it driving.

  11. Not just H&S that is gone mad. But that is TOTALLY STUPID.
  12. No clue of your requirements since I am in the states. But on a practical point you need ventilation so that any fumes are removed and not allowed to build it. I remember in the 60's my dad had an outboard runabout and had to add to vents to the compartment where the gas was stored (2 5 gallon metal tanks) so that air would flow through. New rules required it on ALL boats.
  13. Just curious. Here 80% and higher humidity is normal in the summer for us. Temps of 85-95 degrees or 30-35C are common and sometimes for weeks on end. Just gets absolutely oppressive! As i get older I like summer less and less. Of course virtually all homes have Air Conditioning and nearly all boats big enough to live on. It is almost a requirement with our miserable summers.
  14. Keep in mind fuse size has to match the wire size, because the fuse prevents the wire from overheating by drawing to much power through it. It is not protecting the device is connected too. NEVER put a larger fuse size than the wire it is mounted in is rated because is something bad happens it could cause a fire. Proper way is determine the load needed. Find the proper wire size for that load and then the fuse to match the wire size.
  15. What is humidity level in your heat wave?
  16. In the states we would call that a "Redneck palace" but it would be on wheels.
  17. Bookmarked. LOVE a good map!
  18. Did they work for Ovaltine or what this just the first floating Advertisement?
  19. Diesel is so important to the economy I seriously doubt you are going to see it your life time. It's used way to many place that can't just be changed over easily or economically. Big ships. Trains, trucks, etc.
  20. This is exactly the sort of paper trail I was thinking of and would want to see if I were buying from an individual.
  21. Nice to see knowledgeable electric advice on a forum! So many times I see people that have no clue spouting out really bad advice. My hats off to you guys!
  22. As a future buyer I have wondering this and the answer I am coming up with is there is no positive proof. Best advice I have seen from a purchasers view is ask for receipts for repairs or updates. Maybe the owner has some photos of he and family on the boat. Things like that that reasonable assure the person owns the boat. A existing loan on boat to a bank would be reasonably assuring to me. In the states you often have a Title, that is a legal document recorded with the State government showing ownership of cars, camper and boats. But not all states had that even though I think all do now. Trading old (antique) cars we face the same problem of no proof of ownership.
  23. Fuses are sized to protect the wire. Putting a larger fuse will allow more electricity to pass through and that heats up the wire, possibly causing a fire. Even though it is common for people to put in larger fuses it is a really bad idea. Fuse size should match the wire size. If you want/need a larger fuse you have to make sure the wire can safely handle the amps, that probably means installing a larger wire.
