Please advise on buying a boat privately without a broker!
Broker tells you we check ownership loans against boat etc. bullshit in the small print they always put a get out of jail free card saying you can’t hold them to account if it goes wrong. Take in writing from them no loans outstanding ask for their purchase agreement proof of there current address ONLY pay by bank transfer no cash what so ever.

Stern rope
I had a 3 ton towing strop a loop about 2 meters long with a nappy pin attached. Step off drop over a bollard or pin to the Armco stop boat drifting off while I would tie up using mid and front. Or when closing lock gates quick and simple. Had a rope also if strop to short.

Riperian rights and the end of garden mooring. Should you pay to moor?
What is the value of a mooring with NO landslide access. If they say the commercial value it’s zero as it has no access. The only access is yours so it has no commercial value. IMHO.

Amber weather warning ⚠️
I was working in Bombay in June 1991 3 days before monsoon was due to start India’s Michael Fish said and I quote we will have 3 days pre monsoon showers. Result was 3 days of rain dumped 1.4 meters of rain on Bombay airport. lol. I lived on the 7th floor and got flooded out due drain on terrace be blocked by the kids football. If Bombay sees 1 inch of rain in 1 hour at high tide it floods big time. Glad to live in Goa flooding not an issue here. My sister in law is opening her garden tomorrow for fund raising for naps. All her hard work over the last weeks now lie flat on the ground rain has just flattened everything.

CRT Gate Props
I found if you have this issue just open a top gate paddle a tiny amount when bottom gate closed water then holds it shut after a few seconds.

Aldi, Rugeley T&M canal bridge 66
As a retired aircraft engineer I am pleased to say all aircraft are imperial. Went to a French tool store on a contract I was on for a 1/8 th drill told not in stock had to ask for 3.3 mm instead. Looked at the drill and marked 1/8th lol. Manuals in English idiots to tight to have translated to French and the bulls ups was an eye opener for sure.

Miliband launches net zero crackdown on boats
It would seem the government has its eyes on boats in our case canal boats to be zero CO2 2050. All boats to be electric or future power ie not invented yet. No diesel no wood fired stove no coal just one battery the size of the Titanic to run everything. These people live in a bubble of madness disconnected from reality of the real world we have to live in. And there’s us looking to get back into a boat lol.

CMing - a new and original strategy to avoid moving?
Jack up the front large steel pole at right angles into water same at centre and rear now push pull boat along until it tips and slides down the poles into the water. Seal up all holes vents etc should work I should think no way of lifting back in that’s for sure. Maybe floatation bags on the left side to help keep upright. Maybe I can consult if they pay my ticket from my home in Calcutta lol

Engines
I had one in my boat that I put 4015 hours on in 3 years only issue was a bad oil leak which was the fault of the travel pack alternator not the basic engine. I change the oil every 250 hours gearbox every 500 fuel filter every 500. Air filter I changed to a K&N cleanable type engine never gave any issues and when sold had 6010 hours on the block no smoke while running or on start up. Always started first turn of the key summer or winter as we were cc’ers.

Stove Flue Copper Coil
I used to find over night the heat was transferred from hot water tank the radiators so no hot water in the morning fix for this was a bypass so back boiler did not heat calorifier as we moved or ran engine everyday lack of hot water not a issue but rads ticked over nicely.

CRT Commission
I see a whole sky full of them. So as a cc’er I moor in some friendly farmers field for a few and tell him when I not there he can rent it to any passing boats mean while I am out and about not as a marina leisure boater but as cc,er. Or will they say you can only be out on the cut for a limited amount of time per year if a leisure boater. Bottom line get ready to pay more. Also this government will see boating as a “Middle class” activity and the middle class must pay more even to get out of bed in the morning. I am glad I’ve left the UK permanently and now live in the country that has turned red tape into a art form “India” home now between Goa and Calcutta Goa for quite and greenery Calcutta for the food. Still miss the boat life but not the bull sh*t of living with the crap governments that keep getting elected. Peace to all lol rant over.

Why electric cars will take over sooner than you think
We live mainly in Goa with another home in Calcutta (now Kolkata India has a name changing agenda get rid of the Raj lol) my wife half German half Irish was born in Assam but spent her childhood in Calcutta and still has a sister there. To boats you may be thinking of Kerala one of the southern states. They have house boats on the back waters very beautiful can be rented for holidays chug round the waterways being looked after by the crew very nice. South India food is nice lots of veg food not that I am a vegetarian but I do enjoy their food.

Ok duck lol ev’s are not as Green as people say you are moving the emissions from the tail pipe to the power station also the last I saw heavy mining equipment is far from Green so all the savings at the tail pipe go to digging up the planet to make the battery for millions of ev’s. Just my opinion. I do not own a ev as I live in India now and charging ev’s away from home is a nightmare so no go for us until ICE’s about to be banned then replace a little Maruti for another one by the time it dies I will be 6ft under lol. That’s fine for you but all your emission free driving is just moved some place else. Also said above what about upgrading the grid/network. Also with smart meters who to say sorry mate to many chargers on your road right now your in a queue until the load drops. Pls don’t say it’s a conspiracy just my view of what could happen in the future like petrol rationing when shortages happen ev charging could be rationed because of loads on the system. Also it’s possible that your car be plugged in could be used to back fill the network if required power does flow both ways in and out. This has been talked about in the past you go on holiday leave the car plugged in and the grid uses it as a grid battery store up at night discharge during peak times. Anyway as I said above I live in India now and ev’s are a nightmare here if you move away from home because there is no one app for chargers there are many one for each supplier so as I said a nightmare. wish we were still on the boat miss the life of cc’ing the network rain or shine.
