  1. Alvecote has no official residential moorings but plenty of people live on their boats. As long as you take it out now and again, I don't think anyone would comment.
  2. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  3. In my experience this is an exaggeration. I am indubitably an 'old bugger' though not angry and no more miserable than most. I would usually go out of my way (at least a certain distance) to help someone. There are fewer of us than previously but we are not a minority yet.
  4. Used them twice; once for a weeks visitor mooring and once to order, collect and install a water pump at short notice. Both times they were fine with me.
  5. I think that this is true of many folk involved in 'minority' activities, particularly activities which they perceive as attracting some opprobrium in wider circles. For many years I ran a Series IIA Landrover and found this to be the case; even more so with motorcycles.
  6. I bought my own beautiful Orion tug via RBS eight years ago and RBS would be my first choice if I was selling it today. Knowing what I do today, I probably paid more than I should have for it (virtually the asking price), but I think I could make a small profit if I sold it now. Might be completely wrong of course.
  7. Seems not. I've never encountered an emergency which required me to watch 'dancing on ice'. Perhaps my life has been too sheltered.
  8. Loddon I don't know if I am using a legacy theme, certainly not deliberately. Not using a phone, a mac book pro. David Mack I don't have 3 bars on any of my screens as far as I can see. This is the screen which I get on opening the site, I use the "new stuff" 'button' on the right of the 4th row down.
  9. TheBiscuits I don't get a computer at the top right (or anywhere else on the screen) but thanks for trying to help. MtB No, I don't, sorry. Slow and Steady Alas my self control is not up to the political stuff on here.
  10. Relieved to hear that the typo was agricultural, bit concerned for a second. Yes, I would prefer to view new content, especially if it gets me away from the politics area. The problem is that I can't see your suggested "View New Content" anywhere. I get broadly the same result i.e. see new content, from the "new stuff" 'button' which I do have access to. But there is no way to exclude particular areas using this. I really don't want to see "we have left the EU" reach 1000 pages, I am worried that my head would explode.
  11. Athy, That doesn't seem to be the case for me. When I open the site the home page is as follows:- 1st line starts with the logo and ends with my name 2nd line starts with "browse" and ends with the search box 3rd line starts with "forums" and ends with "privacy policy" 4th line only contains three items "home" "new stuff" and "mark site read" I click on "new stuff" and go to the list of topics which have had entries since my last visit. But this page does include political topics.
  12. I came upon this old thread of mine while trying to do something else(*) and realised that I had committed the sin of not saying how things turned out. Sorry for the 4 year delay. I took it to Debdale where the pump-out toilet, waste tank and bath were removed. The engine was moved to a central position and the old bathroom was divided into an engine room and a new shower room. The did a really good job albeit at an eye-watering cost (which I recognise would not be recovered if the boat were sold). It solved the engine access and noisy drive issues and created a useful engine room. The only loss was the full size bath which we only used as a shower-tray anyway. No pictures cause I am not on the boat at the moment. (*)P.S. How do you switch off the politics threads (what I was trying to do in the first place)?
  13. When it happened to me, I didn't have to unbolt anything, I just lifted the tiller. I would try this before unbolting anything. Only resort to unbolting if there is no vertical movement in the tiller.
  14. Often you can lift a rudder and replace it your self, or perhaps with one other person to help you. It may not be as difficult as you imagine. Otherwise, make the two day trip taking care with the rudder. Beaten to it!

  18. Gambling winnings are not taxable because HMRC do not wish to get into the situation where gambling losses became allowable (against other income). Note that the USA takes a different view.

  21. I don't think that can be correct, the original was much less than 4.1% as far as I can remember.
  22. Yes, end up with a cross between a colander and a hedgehog. Been there, got the t-shirt.
