  2. I think they were planning an early lunch at Trent Lock. http://www.vintageinn.co.uk/thetrentlocksawley/ They wanted to make a day of it and not get to Redhill Marina too early. I forgot to say there were 2 lockies seeing them through. That makes NINE in all.

Picture taken from the back of my boat with the river running to the right and then turning left infront of the church. Thanks for any help.................
  8. Another man who had his head nailed to the floor was Stig O' Tracy. Rogers: I've been told Dinsdale Piranha nailed your head to the floor.Stig: No. Never. He was a smashing bloke. He used to buy his mother flowers and that. He was like a brother to me.Rogers: But the police have film of Dinsdale actually nailing your head to the floor.Stig: (pause) Oh yeah, he did that.Rogers: Why?Stig: Well he had to, didn't he? I mean there was nothing else he could do, be fair. I had transgressed the unwritten law.Rogers: What had you done?Stig: Er... well he didn't tell me that, but he gave me his word that it was the case, and that's good enough for me with old Dinsy. I mean, he didn't *want* to nail my head to the floor. I had to insist. He wanted to let me off. He'd do anything for you, Dinsdale would.Rogers: And you don't bear him a grudge?Stig: A grudge! Old Dinsy. He was a real darling.Rogers: I understand he also nailed your wife's head to a coffee table. Isn't that true Mrs O' Tracy?Mrs O' Tracy: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.Stig: Well he did do that, yeah. He was a hard man. Vicious but fair.

  13. Perhaps the ANSWER may be found here ................ http://middlelevelwatermensclub.com/Our_Club.html Quote :- The Middle Level Watermen’s club is based a few minutes walk from the centre of the historic town of March. A good shopping area and a market place that opens twice a week (Wed. & Sat.). By the town bridge there is a FREE pump-out & Elsan disposal station.

  16. Here is a pic. showing how wide and how deep...............
  17. Hi, She was with her husband on a hire boat and was waiting to come down the lock............ One of the two people that climbed down the ladders was her husband. I moor at the marina and never walk on those gates, you have to hold the handrail and lean into the lock to clear the greasy lock gear. Maybe she was doing just that and lost her grip. Glad she is ok and has now been confirmed apart from some scrapes she has only suffered a broken wrist. Regards, Patrick.
  18. Hi, For those that do not know how deep this lock is here is a link to a picture I found on the internet taken when they were working on the lock earlier this year.
  19. Hi, Just seen this on facebook from a friend............ He has given me permission to copy his message. "'Interesting' day - was on my way out to do a driving lesson when there was a hughe commotion at the lock near me. Upshot was woman had walked across the balance beam (instead of using the bridge at the other end of the lock) and had fallen in. Now this lock is over 12ft deep and it was empty - then to add to the joy there were two boats coming into it. She hit her head on the way down, and vanished under the two boats. Boats dragged out, 2 people climb down into lock and after some 3 minutes or so pull up the body. Blue, not breathing. The two men now in the water float the body out of the lock trying to give mouth to mouth on the way and get as far as the jetty at the bottom of the lock where I'm now waiting for them. Body lifted out - gave her a few damned good slaps on the back and she started breathing. Everyone squaking and getting excited all giving different instructions until eventually I just put my police voice on and took over. Paramedics appeared - oxygen given, strapped to a body board and off to hospital. Hoping she's OK - she was back to a normal colour and talking by the time we loaded her into the ambulance so the prognosis is good. Just waiting for news from the hospital now" Another comment from him.............. "Loads of gawpers but possibly the least helpful was the kid who shouted "She's dead" as we were trying to get her out of the lock. She's not dead until I give up mate." Whilst typing this I have just had a call from him and the lady has had a brain scan and has been passed as ok........... She was lucky because that is a deep lock ! Regards, Patrick.
  20. Have a word with Michael Fish............ http://www.newsbiscuit.com/2012/06/22/michael-fish-caught-siphoning-off-weather-for-personal-use/
  21. Wow that is a brilliant image.................. I just wonder how they managed to end up right on the TOP of the sandbank ? Regards, Patrick.
  22. Found this also............... The guy in the pusher is the same guy that is at Salters Lode. http://www.fadsdirectory.com/reviews/conver-silt-pusher Quote;- The unit is ‘steered’ by a pair of fore and aft-attached cables, anchored to the bank, which are controlled using auto-spooling winches. In this way the machine may be accurately positioned for maximum engagement with the silt, an operation that is controlled directly from the operator compartment.
  23. Hi, When I left last night on the tide the silt pusher was having a go .............. It seemed to be flaying about at all angles with it pulling hawser attached to the jib of the digger. Before I left I spoke to the EA guy that was working the pusher and he said the heavy metal plough thing was for breaking up the silt and the other thing on the back was for pushing it . There is a winch system that pulls the pusher forwards and ideally there is also a line to pull it back but here they can't use that because the river is too wide. It has to go back with a screw propeller and the aluminum boxes on the side are for deep water stability. The front and back things can be lowered to work up to 1.2 meters deep. He told me the possible problem here would be the fact that this is a SAND bank rather than silt and therefor heavy. It would be great if someone can get some pics of it working ! http://www.adceastanglia.co.uk/News/Silt-Pusher By the way he stands up to operate it............. he is just sitting here waiting for the tide to rise so that he can work it !
  24. Well this morning a low loader delivered the digger and work has begun............... They are currently waiting for more water as they can only use the silt pusher at certain levels. The estimate for amount to be moved is between 1000 and 2000 tons, going to take 3 weeks maybe to move it all. Will try to get video if they are able to start digging again.
