  1. Nothing yet guys- to be honest,I have been stuck with my head in an engine for several days so took a day off. Back to it tomorrow!
  2. Hi Thanks for responses,I am not sure what "bar" over the engine is? I gave up yesterday as rain was making it difficult and it was important to have electric on for charging leisure batteries. I did look through manual and on line to find possible part with issue. I shall continue to look today and attempt to identify any issues. The starter motor was sitting correctly and the smoke came more from the right of the engine. Ok,thanks all will attempt this today. Thanks, will explore Eek! I shall give it a go! Thanks, yes,it barrus shire 35. Lots to explore today then. I shall follow everyone's advice before contacting RCR. It would be nice to resolve without contacting them. Exciting stuff!
  3. Just an update on starter battery and starter motor .All seemed fine battery was charged up ,I double checked starter motor . Installed and not working . We used a booster and tried to start it ,we saw smoke coming from under the engine and smelt burning. We think it is a s solenoid with one lead coming from it. We think it goes to fuel injection but unsure at the moment. I have no idea if this is any way connected to my existing problem . I shall attempt to get under and take photos. I am looking through manual for engine and attempting to identify it at the moment. I don't want to give up but maybe a call to RCR is inevitable.
  4. Yes,it's a mystery to me too! I shall check what you have suggested. I seem to always have a run of issues, sometimes not always linked. Great for learning more but a little worrying when they come on top of each other😊 With regard to starter motor and battery issue ,hopefully,be able to run test later today and will have more info. Thanks
  5. Ok,so I woke up this morning to find the fuse lights flashing ,which eventually stopped . Leisure batteries at 13.8! Everything is working......except the water pump! I do have a spare water pump and I shall let this sit for a while because I have a feeling it will miraculously recover. The paper under the switch did not work,I tried it last night.
  6. I didn't clean the leisure batteries. I have been working on the starter battery. The solar panel is not working either. I am wondering whether when working on the starter battery and had power off that not enough power has gone to leisure batteries but that does not explain the solar panel. I shall try the paper trick . Obviously, now I have to find a way of ensuring my leisure batteries do not go flat as I cannot rely on engine or solar panel. Sorry for the late message. AHH,boats, such fun 😊 Yes,that's right . I didn't connect solar panel to starter battery. Yes,I do.
  7. The plot thickens because I have no 12 volt,24 working and inverter working. So something has shorted. It is 600w . I try to run engine until it shows 14.6 which will obviously drop when engine switches off. It generally remains at 12.7 or 12.8.
  8. I was responding to your points that you sent. You asked if I had a solar panel with reference to charging batteries in the summer.
  9. Yes,I do have an inverter,so perhaps not running engine as long as I should. I do have a panel(thank goodness). Ah,good news regarding engine then as no flooding .
  10. Hi I didn't look at replies until just now because my neighbour said he would test it. I always listen to advice and actually I have quite enjoyed trouble shooting. I am sorry if people feel I haven't tak n on board suggestions but that is not the case. Hi As said previously I did test battery. As soon as my battery is returned I shall test whilst cranking. I learnt a lot from removing the starter motor,so time not wasted. I run it for a couple of hours each day on over 10 on speedometer. How I was shown when I bought the boat. How would I know if the engine has sucked up water? Any tell tale signs? Yes Ok,will hopefully do test tomorrow and report back.
  11. Hi I did test battery and said 13,this was on the clamps. My fellow boater tested this morning and it was 8. The body wasn't getting warm on the starter motor. A few days ago when trying to jump start I noticed the negative clip was warm, the actual lead. I have cleaned all posts and as said the starter motor took. My neighbour has taken the battery to charge now.
  12. It's a barrus shire 35. No change It is always a little temperamental in winter. I have had to jump start over the last few weeks. Four days ago it would not start when jump starting and just made continuous clicking. I usually run it every day or so. I am on the Oxford
  13. Hi All So sorry, I have spent all day removing starter motor ,testing battery etc. It seems the battery id defunked but an experienced boater had said he will take it and see if he can work some magic. The starter motor was thoroughly cleaned and tested and was working off the boat. Tested with someone else's battery. All fine and dandy until I returned it to its rightful place .Although it's no longer clicking it isn't starting the boat. It's a mystery! Any next move suggestions? I am still getting through all of the replies.Thankyou so much. Although my starter battery was initially showing 13.0. A further test was done by my neighbour which showed the battery was very poor. He had a special tool that I don't have . Showing the 'cranking' voltage. I 🤔
  14. Hi All I hope everyone is fine and dandy! Ok,so I am attempting to start my engine and it is making a continuous clicking sound. The battery is showing good voltage, the connections seem fine. I suspect the starter motor. Any views or ideas, especially from the fab Tony Brookes would be great!
  15. Hi All Unable to access brushes and I think I agree the corrosion is too muçh. Lesson learned- should have taken and stored. Thanks
  16. Hi It wasn't totally immersed,no sound at all , my multi Meter is not working hence testing with batteries, I sprayed WD40 wherever rusty or ceased. The orientation of pump is fine as previously worked. Hi All Thanks for your responses. I did remove those screws and there was no movement from the motor . I worked on it and now there is but I was unsure if it comes out ,I did not want to pull it out as I do not kno how it is attached. I will send a photo shortly If I can save it ,that would be fab as barely used Hi All I guess I shall try to get the motor out .Seems quite firmly in. I shall test it on battery again tomorrow in case it has decided to work. After your responses ,I think I shall d finitely try to move it so it is not directly under sink drainage! So,it should just slid out, right? Sorry Jen,I missed one of your questions . I bought it and replaced the previous pump which was not a gulper . I had it working for two months

  18. Hi, Sorry for delay in responding. The whale gulper was new when last used which was 1.5 years ago. It has been sitting there after only 2 months use. Unfortunately ,I have continually had problems with plumbing on this boat; leaks onto the gulper ,I think caused it to cease up. I have taken it apart cleaned all parts that able to access and tested it via batteries to see if running and absolutely nothing. I did spray some wD 40 so wonder if this has affected it in some way. Parts all moving now and have sat it in sun ,open to perhaps dry it out. Any suggestions welcome as currently showering in large tub and emptying water overboard or in plants! The jabsco was tested and is working but it is a fresh water pump.
  19. Hi All I have tried to get my whale gulper going to no avail. I am wondering if I can use a par max 2.9 ,model 31395 water system pump for the shower extraction?
  20. Hi. Just an update. Maffi- I know you were in Oxford but thanks anyway. I called Canal River Rescue and although the guy did not replace the belt . He tightened the belt and took me through what I need to do and what size belt I need and I feel happy about doing it now He also started my engine which means I can have heating and hot water. Another thing I have learnt. Thanks to everyone for your comments and help. One day I shall post something, other than requests for help- lol!
  21. Excellent! Thanks so much. I shall give it a go
  22. Thanks all for replies. Photos would be fantastic. Maffi- it would be great if you could talk me through and show me what I need to do.
  23. Ah,Tony that is so kind. I shall ask around Banbury. I also noticed I have home start on my insurance and wonder if I can take advantage of this. I really just need a diagram showing belts and nuts. Thanks so much.
  24. Ah, Tony, that is so kind. I shall ask around . I also noticed I have homestart on my insurance and wonder if I can make use of this. I really just need a diagram. Thank you so much
  25. Hi All Sorry for the delay ,my mobile needed charging(typical!). Jen- cannot find a decent photo, that is part of my problem! As I am feeling around in very little space. I am not too worried about engine starting as I think it is the belts. I have tried briefly again today but no luck finding the nuts to take off. Tony- If anyone is near or in Banbury and can take me through it ,that would be great. I shall try again tomorrow afternoon ,after work. Turned all of my battery draining items off until I can get this resolved. The joy!
