  1. Yes to be honest I have had enough I was asked to explain what happened by Alan for the benefit of others and did so in order to educate others of the pitfalls of not following guidelines with the people you use to install systems such as gas. I then get a load of XXXX for not following RCD compliance which is totally irrelevant in the discussion and not that it is anybody's business RCD compliance has been followed throughout the boat in case we want to sell not because we suck up to EU Law which I totally oppose quite simply to ensure we are ready if we sell. I do not have to explain anything or justify anything to any of you including Mike the Boilerman who does not own this forum and did not read what happened correctly before making random accusations to inflame the post which clearly it did. As I have already said there are some on this forum that give sound advice which is appreciated and there are some on this forum that just have nothing better to do than be rude, troll and turn a thread into an argument. I am not interested in that sort of behavior so yes I have had enough I grew up a long time ago and left school many many years ago so not interested in these playground tactics it is pathetic and makes me wonder who these people really are to behave like that. I am not whining I have had enough of this forum quite simply because it is good but there is too many idiots on here which is outweighing what is good about it and seriously is putting me off wanting to be on the canals with people like that !! It is just pathetic
  2. If it was not for the trolling on this forum and the constant insults for having a wide beam boat this forum would be a fantastic place there are a few really good people on here but unfortunately a lot of trolls too that ruin it for others quite sad really when there is clearly so much knowledge on this forum that there are so many people ready to jump on the bandwagon with insults or accusations as soon as they get a chance. PATHETIC !
  3. Seriously did any of you read that we paid someone ELSE to do the installation as they were apparently compliant however subsequently found out they were not in fact compliant and the gas installation is wrong so therefore how is that our fault other than being ripped off and having to have it done again. This is exactly the reason why I did not want to mention it on this forum as people go off on one and make accusations that are just not true some of you really need to read what I have said before implying otherwise it is just rude carrying on like this ! I have much better things to do than even bother with a further response on this get off your high horse and actually read the post !
  4. For goodness sake please do not assume that we are not doing that and even if we wasn't and following BSS regulations what has that got to do with anyone if we are not selling it ! I am not obliged to do the RCD directive if I do not want to and hopefully Brexit happens so all this rubbish that is imposed on us by the EU Stops !!
  5. Thanks for that and very neat and tidy good idea where you have them
  6. Interesting reading thanks for that will have to think of the options
  7. Thanks I am watching a load of youtube videos now which shows exactly what you say really helpful. I am gearing up to launching the boat in the next 5 weeks so am thinking about all the things I need to know that I don't at the moment and realise I still know very little !!
  8. Thanks for that info appreciate that. With the brass stern greaser that we have now is it a simple matter of turning it a few times every time the engine is started, sorry do not know anything about them so forgive my complete lack of knowledge in this area I honestly don't t know what I am supposed to do other than turn it but how do you measure if it is the correct amount of grease or if you have put too much in ?
  9. OK thanks do you know if there is any other sort that is automatic or is it always a manual process. I have never owned a canal boat before so all of this is completely new to me
  10. I am sure that is the case however when you have absolutely no local knowledge where we are it is extremely difficult as it appears most of them know very little about canal boats and spend a lot more time trying to work it out than say someone who does this all the time. Can't wait to get out of that yard !!
  11. Need some advice please or suggestions. We have been advised that we need a remote stern greaser on the deck by our surveyor, likely due to the difficulty of my wife getting in and out of the engine bay. The local mechanic at our boat yard has ordered one that looks like the image below. My understanding, correct me if I am wrong is this sits in the engine bay and is not exactly remote, we currently only have a grease nipple. Is there any other solutions that people use that can be managed quite easily without having to daily open the engine cover to get to it, something on the control panel maybe ? thanks
  12. Hi Tony the inverter is set to charge only so is always charging the batteries at least that is my understanding.
  13. I don't know that is why I am asking do you have any suggestions ? thanks
  14. Just found this on ebay maybe I dont need an electrician if I buy this for the shore power he has good feedback just wondering if this is a good enough solution https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Galvanic-Isolator-Boat-500A-Lifetime-Guarantee-Easy-Install-Top-Quality/292567881656?hash=item441e6797b8:g:kN0AAOSwNNVa~b6J
  15. Hi seadog, sorry clicked the wrong one meant to copy the magnesium ones. I agree with you that the effort should be in the Galvonic Isolator as we will be in a busy marina I will ask the electrician if he can fit one as he is in next week I may put the other small magnesium anodes I have on the hull above the existing ones as I have them anyway. Cheers
  16. Thanks Tony, yes of course that would make sense not to put in the centre, as they are protected where they are, I guess having a couple more anodes above the ones we already have might be an option to increase protection but dont want to overdo it either. Perhaps I might just put some small anodes that were given to me in the yard towards the stern of the boat and leave the others alone and check the boat in a year after its been launched.
  17. Hi Chewbacka, when you say risk of being whacked in the centre, is it not the same risk wherever the anodes are on the boat if they are in the same line ?
  18. Just wondered if anyone has these hanging anodes below https://www.asap-supplies.com/anodes/hull-anodes/mgduff-aluminium-hanging-anode-ad57-812329
  19. It is a boat yard not a mooring so all the boats are being worked on at present. I have no idea when other people's contracts started however this new policy refers to anyone who has had their boat in the yard for longer than a year. We have had no disputes with the yard or anyone for that matter and do not need to keep our head down as we have done nothing wrong at all bit of an assumption that we may of, however they have just sent this out to everyone including members who have not been at the yard for ages. We are moving now to a mooring as did not want to be there anyway but luckily have found somewhere nice to go. We suspect they have other plans for the yard and do want everyone to go however it would of been nice if they had of shared this with us when we brought the boat but probably expecting too much for a bit of decency from that place
  20. No it is not in the contract or on their terms and condition it is nowhere, apparently there was an email sent to everybody some time last year however neither myself or anybody else I have spoken to in the yard received such an email and it came as a complete shock to all of us, we are all required to be members of this club as well and there are member meetings and this is also not in the minutes of any meetings. Personally I do not care as we have found mooring now and will be moving in 5 weeks but there are some in the yard who will be taking them on because they are not in a position to move their boats immediately due to not being seaworthy, this yard is near the sea. So what they have done for whatever reasons they feel they wanted to has upset a lot of people who are also members of the club and have shares in the club with the membership. It is highly underhand and no we have not done anything to upset the boat yard this email was sent to absolutely everyone else who has boats in there
  21. Absolutely that is one of the reasons it is being moved in 5 weeks we have had nothing but issues with the yard, we are the only canal boat in the yard the rest are sea boats, however I am very fortunate in that I am in contact with a fantastic BSS inspector who is helping me along the way and I am passing that info on to the marine electrician etc now. I also know that had we of been on the canals we would not of been ripped off so much as we have been by anyone we have used in the yard. Also we brought the boat it was already in the boat yard it would not of been our choice to move her there.
  22. Thanks Alan would love to but we are moving the boat in 5 weeks to the canals and need all the money we have for that due to cranes etc maybe one day but I think we will not have some money for some time so will have to make do until then
  23. Hi Alan, Yes of course, I didn't want to go too much into this due to potential nasty comments on this forum about what has happened and I should of known better etc, but think this is an important point and people need to be aware of what can happen if you do not use the right people as I have made a mistake here. Our marine electrician is absolutely fine and there is no issues with him, the issue is with the gas installer. Cut a long story short I was told that this person who installed the calor on the boat was a fully qualified BOAT fitter not just a gas fitter and because this person was doing other boats in the same boatyard I believed it to be the case as the company was well known and recommended in the area, which I would point out is full of yachts at the boatyard, however when I was discussing the water vent outlet going through the gas locker and if this was an issue or not, I sent a picture of the gas locker to a BSS inspector contact I have who saw the gas installation and wanted to know why it was installed that way. The gas fitter had put the gas pipe on the floor of the locker and through to the main cabin and there was no protection whatsoever of the gas pipe should something fall on it and also there was a hole into the cabin through the gas locker which clearly was not gas tight. So I have since found out that the so called BOAT gas installer is in fact not qualified to do this at all and is only qualified for caravans and domestic gas, when I asked him about BSS he knew nothing about it or what it meant, therefore should not of been working on the boat at all. The gas has been incorrectly installed not following safety or BSS standards and is completely coming out next week and will be reinstalled by a fully qualified boat gas fitter following BSS regulations. I have got my money back from this person and the gas locker has been re welded, no gas connected for now until resolved. My lesson has been learnt here, check credentials properly if you cannot install if yourself, which I did not feel confident to do. However if you do install gas yourself it is really important to follow BSS guidelines as they are there for safety and I do feel that the BSS inspector I have been dealing with has been absolutely brilliant in educating me about the risks.
