  1. Ok great. Will keep this in mind!
  2. The flue is what's moving. Thanks for the advice. It appears there was some kind of sealant there that has now perished. I will follow the advice of checking for rot in the seal and a high temperature sealent. All is fine at the roof end as far as I can see.
  3. Ok so thhe point where the flue starts to join the burner has come lose. So if you hold the main unit you can wiggle it. Essentially the seal appears to have broken. You can see where it glistens in the light in the picture. Sorry - a difficult one to explain!
  4. Hi everyone, I have an issue with my flue which (hopefully) you can see in the video. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks :) flue_SCH4PWQe.compressed.mp4
  5. Hi. We had diesel dripping from one of our filters. Had to unscrew and reposition the O ring and we think this might have fixed the problem. We turned off the diesel whilst we did this to save losing any more. We now want to turn back on the diesel supply so we run the engine and see if the dripping has stopped. What is the procedure for doing this safely. Do we need to pump out the diesel still in the pipes? I remember being shown this before but can't remember exactly how to do this. Many thanks Dan
  6. Hi all, I need to repack the stern gland, and I understand there are 5 different sizes of the rope that I need to do this. How do I go about finding out the size? Thanks Dan

    Gas leak

Thanks everyone. I have a feeling that I may have not tightened it properly. I changed bottles over in the dark. Unfortunately I don't have a spare propane to test it out with... Looks like it is take away time!

    Gas leak

Hi all, Came home today and turned on the gas to boil the kettle. The flame on the hob got smaller and smaller until it disappeared as happens when the gas bottle has run out. This would not be unusual but we only replaced the gas bottle a week or so ago. I went out to the gas locker to check the connection and I could smell gas in the locker. It appears that there is a leak, either at the connection at the gas bottle to the gas hose pipe or from the hose pipe itself. I have closed the valve on the gas bottle to prevent any further leaks and have closed the gas valve that allows for the flow of gas into the oven to be on the safe side. I imagine that the problem is with the hose rather than a faulty or leaking gas bottle, so is there a way I can test the hose to see if there is a leak, and can I replace the hose myself or do I need to get someone to take a look at it? Thanks
  9. Hi all, I understand that only the blue anti-freeze should be used in an Eberspacher. I need to top mine up and it appears to have the pink liquid in it - the previous owner must have used pink. I have some universal ethylene glycol based anti-freeze. Do you think it will be ok to top up using this? Thanks
  10. It was something wrapped around the propeller! Thanks for your help.
  11. Thanks everyone. I will check it and let you know how I get on!
  12. Here is a video. It is hard to make out but the gear box (i think!) appears to be making a hollow rattling sound. engine video.mp4
  13. HI there, having some engine issues. Engine was ok this morning and then we stopped to fill up with water. Upon restarting, there was a loud 'click' in gear whenever the engine turned over, getting faster with higher revs. The click eventually stopped but the engine continued to be very loud and with a loud rattle in gear. At the same time the boat seemed to be barely moving and higher revs didn't seem to get it to speed up. We moored and took a look inside. The loud rattle seems to come from around the gearbox when in gear. We already checked oil levels and the engine was serviced only a couple months ago. Engine is a Barrus shire. Any ideas?
  14. Not disconnected but I opened the isolator switches before doing anything. I have just removed it from the wall at this point. Thanks for your guidance - you have answered my question.
  15. Hi all, My Sterling inverter stopped working a while back. I have taken it off the wall to send it to Sterling to get fixed but I am unsure how to best remove the red and black cables from the back of the unit (see pictures). Is there any trick to doing this? Thanks
  16. I don't know what the previous owner put in... The manual doesn't specify anything except Ethylene Glycol. How do they differ?
  17. Hi, The manual for my engine (Barrus) states that It needs 50% coolant and 50% Ethylene Glycol mix. Does this mean that I can use the pink/ the blue antifreeze in the shops? Thanks! Dan
  18. Oh I didn't know that - the leaving for one hour thing.
  19. Yeah I've got a mains charger. Doubt I will be able to do the marina suggestion unfortunately. I will get hold of an ammeter. Thanks.
  20. Dr.Bob - volt meter I charge them with the aim of getting to (or as close to 100%) regularly. Alan - Ok, so I just checked using the volt meter. Reading at 13.95 after running in tick over for 2.5 hours...
  21. at the babysitter comment.... OK so I have four 100amp hour leisure batteries. I charge by running in tick over/ when i'm cruising (getting solar in a couple of weeks), so I know that isn't kind on the batteries. Oh damn I thought that 13.9 was ok - let me go check what it's at now.
