  1. All good, glad I got it all working and thanks for all the help. Still gonna run through the other checks on here just to make sure its all running the best it can be.
  2. I take any and all trash i find off the towpath or wherever I happen to be. I hate litter. Having said that... I find it a little rich how they ask me to 'act local' as they push me along constantly with the looming threat of having my licence revoked.
  3. Never rode a car, only motorcycles. But yeah, i'm not sure why i turned it off, maybe assumed it was fine sine the boat was still running. But yeah definitely not my finest moment.
  4. Barely had to rev at all to be honest, just had to leave the light on.
  5. Turned the motor on and left the keys fully on so the light was on, after some revving the light turned off and after a small cruise my leisure batteries have gone from 12.7 to 13. So i'm thinking I just had the keys turned off while running the engine previously. *facepalm*
  6. Finally back, i'm going to run the alternator tonight and make sure that the light is on, then run these tests you have all recommended. Had to go away for the weekend.
  7. https://www.amazon.co.uk/UT210E-Current-Meters-Capacitance-Tester/dp/B00O1Q2HOQ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=UNI-T+UT210E&qid=1559215298&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1 This one? I'll definitely pick it up if so.
  8. Just noticed it is only AC current measure... Managed to cancel the order. ?
  9. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B074XBG24S Cheap but hopefully useable..
  10. It is possible, as the voltage sensitive split charge relay was only installed right before I moved onto the boat.
  11. - Yep i have a spare starter in addition to the one wired in currently. It looks in good condition, i will measure the voltage when I get home from work and report back. - Could my current starter battery be discharged, and i just need to wait for the alternator to to finish the high-current charge? - The light has always been on when the key in turned to the on position from what I have seen, i will have a go at revving the nuts off it when I get home (before swapping out for the new starter battery) and report back with details. Only once.
  12. Cheers mike! When i put the key in the light goes red, when i start the engine the light stays red. When i switch the key to the off position the light will go out, however the engine will still run normally.
  13. Also i've looked everywhere for a light for my alternator but have found none, only one big red light that comes on when i put the key in. Assuming that's just power on.
  14. I got a clamp meter coming tomorrow from amazon and a spare starter battery in the boat which i'll try tonight. What voltage should my spare starter battery be at while the engine is running if I were to switch them out. Should it jump to 14v right away?
  15. Maybe i should just buy one of those clamp meters, and check to see if current is going through the relay into the domestics.
  16. I'll see how high the starter battery gets with the motor running, i'll also test the voltage between the case of the alternator and the fat red wire coming out. Will report back with details.
  17. I've checked the starter battery while the engine is running and it appears to be charging, it started at 12.5 (i accidently left the key in and had to jump start it) and rose to 12.7 in a few minutes. Does this sound right? I assume once it gets high enough it would begin charging the leisure batteries... Not quite sure, if that were the case then I probably wouldn't have had to make this thread in the first place haha.
  18. I've checked the voltage of the starter battery while the engine is off and it reads 12.7v, i'll run through all your advice and report back with details.
  19. Hello again! We have had a few rainy days here and not much sun, as such our leisure batteries have dropped to about 12.4v. I decided to run the engine for the first time to try and put some power back into the bank. I ran the motor on medium rpm for about 25 minutes and checked the battery bank and it still says 12.4v and finally jumped to 12.5 after 30 minutes or so. We are running our alternator through the starter battery and a split charge relay to the leisure batteries. I checked online on how to test if the alternator is charging and the most common advice I see is to check the terminals on the leisure batteries with a multimeter and it should be at 14+ volts while the alternator is running. I checked my terminals with my multimeter while the engine was running and the voltage displayed was 12.5v (the same as the display on my solar charge controller). I checked online for a wiring diagram for a split charge relay and found this which appears to match how mine is wired up. Could anyone give me some advice as to whether my alternator is broken, i'm doing it wrong, or i'm doing it fine and just need to leave it running. Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
  20. I see people mooring on mead lane and around saltfard, do you have any idea how they might be emptying their cassettes?
  21. Does anyone know if the two elsan points on the canal map in saltford and swineford lock are openable with a CCer key? I've noticed recently that some elsan points in Bath are private and not openable. For example Bathhampton Swing Bridge...
  22. Ran the Eberspacher for an hour last night, water was nice and hot. Not scalding hot though, maybe because i let it sit for ~45 mins while I had dinner before trying the temperature. So i'm honestly clueless as to why it didn't heat while the engine was running, but it seems alright now.
