  1. I like the sound of that! Everything else I'm doing is costing hundreds and adding up to thousands!! Soon as she fires up she is off to get blacked and a bit of welding. I'm hoping she will be done by this time next year. She is a 40 year old boat and I don't think she has had any attention in that time. If you take a look at some of my other posts you will see a picture of her. There was a bit of a discussion as to what she actually is. I think the last post said she was a Hancock & Lane D.I.Y kit although i'm not too sure.
  2. Should the gearbox have some kind of identity plate on it do you think?
  3. Yeah the oil filter is a Mahle. I'll check for numbers (if any) on the fuel filter tomorrow. Now to identify the gearbox!!
  4. Of course, yes I see your point now, I did ask about gear box oil. I'm trawling through some Lister sites and yeah I see the gearboxes that you mention. Like you said hopefully someone will recognise the box so I can then find out what oil is suitable but I will make a note of what you have said and try and get a look tomorrow and report back with my findings.
  5. What gearbox would you expect to see on such an engine? Either way I've had no problem with this one throughout the time the boat was up and running.
  6. Hi guys, here are a few pics of the ST3 And here's a couple more
  7. I have a permanent mooring on the GUC. I only used to run for charging battery but as I'm restoring her I'll be adding solar so the running for charge will be a thing of the past. She is a very basic boat so there will be no big demands on the electrics. Laptop and phone charge, extractor fan and shower pump, lights and maybe a 12v TV. I have a 300w panel waiting to go on and a good controller from Bimble Solar which should look after the starter battery and one leisure battery.
  8. Okay, that make sense. She;s not been started in a while so are there any other tips you can put my way? previously she was quite a smoke free engine unless put in reverse for idling while moored up.and then she threw a bit of black smoke out. I've given her a new exhaust system (pipe work & silencer) as the previous one had as many holes a tea strainer!! I'll post some photos this afternoon for you to take a look at. Lastly, a big thank you to all who have replied even if it was from an empty pilchard tin!!
  9. What is the idea behind coiling the fuel line? Also, do they have a gear box oil?
  10. So the ST3C in my boat is unlikely to be the 'industrial version'?
  11. You'll have to excuse my ignorance but what exactly do you mean by double coil?
  12. Thanks for the info. So you suggest I just replace the copper fuel pipe new for old? The old one has been trodden on a few times so a little flat in places! This would be restricting the fuel supply I assume?
  13. Hi I updated the original post. I double checked the engine plate and it is in fact an ST3C. Does this make any difference to the information you have given me? Ian
  14. Hi all I'm about to do a service on my Lister ST3C and would like all the help I can get with regards to oils etc. I've looked online but there does seem to be a difference of opinion as to what I should be using! Does anyone know of anywhere that specialises in Listers or does anyone have one of these engines and can advise me on what they have found to be suitable? As well as the oil change I'm looking to replace the oil filter and possibly the fuel filter (assuming they have one). The actual fuel line itself is nothing more than a length of copper pipe which I would like to upgrade to a more modern flexi if anyone has any ideas. Ian
  15. Hi All As part of the restoration of my boat (All Oaks) I have removed all the windows for refurbishing and I am one piece missing. This is the strut that sits in between the main glass and the hopper glass. It is a length of aluminium 30 inches long (it is actually 1/16th short of 30 inches) that sits on the interior side of the window. I've seen entire windows for sale around the £100 mark but ideally I would just like the strut at a fraction of the cost. Does anyone know of anyone or anywhere that may have one? Ian
