  1. I've been looking at vintage engines across the sea and the Marna M2/M3 could be a interesting one for a craft. I believe they where Swedish built and the company still exist today. There's a few YouTube videos showing them running and they have a nice chug to them. I haven't seen any for sale here in the UK, so my thoughts would be they hard to obtain one. Anybody had any experience with Marna engines?
  2. Yes my thoughts as well after a lack of info from the seller!! seems to good to be true. I think ill leave this one. Thanks again to all who posted and i apologize as new to this, lots to learn. Jim
  3. Thanks again Alan, a quick browse on the net good amount of spares available ☺ So I'm thinking a rebuild would be a better option and make economic sense?.. What sort of money to have someone total rebuild the engine?.. Jim
  4. Thanks that helps alot. The seller was unsure of type of engine and me neither, he has said the engine needs replacing/rebuiding as seized. I'm guessing a another replacement engine is required do to avability of parts?.. Jim
  5. Can anybody help to identify this engine please i believe its of perkins origin, not sure of the model/type? Thanks Jim
  6. Widebeam is still a option If I can find one at the right price and the restricted 46ft!! it likely going to be a narrowboat now. Jim
  7. Thank you all for your responces and suggestions, apologies for the slow reply I've recently moved. I'm in two minds to relocate to somewhere on the canal networks or just see if i can find a suitable liveaboard mooring here in Norfolk. My heart is set on a 40-46ft canal boat as only allowed up to 46ft here in Norfolk may go bigger if I decide to relocate. Its going to be a liveaboard with the odd sunny day trip cruise, many people have already suggested sticking to a grp cruiser but i really can't abide them. I have no problem to those who do its just a personal preference thing. Jim ?
  8. Thanks Phill, I really looked into this and I would say 98% boats are GRP and styled like something that Barbie and Ken would own. Just not me I'm afraid.
  9. I'm not planing on anything larger than the cruisers already on the broads, reason for wide beam is space and stability. The problem is there no grp in the same style as canal boat or what I can find?..
  10. Thanks Phill, I'm also aware of this Privite rented moorings and a selected few marinas will allow live aboard. They do come up for sale sometimes as well. Same applies to grp there's a bit of snobry but I'm ok with that.
  11. Thanks for your input I'm aware of the tides, and been looking at mooring, tolls ect.. and have consided theses costs. The question asked is would a narrow boat be hard to control on such conditions.. Thanks Jim
  12. Hi all, I'm new to the forum and just in need of your advice. Ok let me start with that i live in Norfolk and new to boating even though im near to the broads. I'm considering a widebeam boat with the live aboard lifestyle. I really don't like the grp or the style of the boats here and love the look of canal boats. So the advice I'm seeking is how well would a wide beam canal boat cope with the tidal currents associated with the broads?.. Thanks Jim
