  1. Had a quick 10 mins on the cut today, too hot for me? These two old beauties were outside the marina.
  2. The Nauticus is an amazing boat. I viewed 5 of them, 4 diesel and one petrol, all in board. The diesel versions were far too noisy plus a couple of them had terrible vibes. The petrol was a little quiter but still too much for me. I ended up with a petrol outboard and it is whisper quite. It is just unfortunate that I could not find a Nauticus with outboard, but I am very happy with my Ensign 27 foot. Good luck with your search.
  3. Understood. Pete. Did you sell the Nauticus?
  4. Just googled the highbridge. That is a very nice looking boat. Why is that? The highbridge doesn't look that high?
  5. Started to tidy up the boat wheel. The wood looks great, I think it is Teak but if anyone knows for sure please let me know.
  6. Hi All, Had my first short trip out of the marina. It only lasted 45mins but I loved every second of it. I fluffed my first mooring attempt, but no damage. ?
  7. All sorted. The Aluminium caps were screwed on but with the corrosion they were hard to un screw.
  8. Maybe. They certainly do not want to budge. I was hoping the wood handle was being held on by the aluminium cap being screwed on. If it is, then they may have been glued in place.
  9. Hi All, I picked up a secondhand wheel. I am going to turn new wood handles for it. The handles do not want to unscrew. Has anyone stripped one of these before? I am wondering if they are glued. It is from a Shetland. Regards, Paul
  10. Hi All, Today I had the great pleasure to meet Tony Tugboats. What a Gentleman. He went through everything with me, he was not in a rush to get away and as a first time boater it gave me a lot of confidence. His attention to making it all safe to travel by road is brilliant. Couple of pics Tony took for me at Jones Boatyard this morning.
  11. Agreed. I think it is going to be a hobby that I will enjoy. Cheers, Paul.
  12. It was a shame the boat couldn't of been out of the water for longer. it was about 1 hour. The figures from deck down to water line were 7-10% If I re-name I will call her The Sponge. ? If she stays afloat for another couple of years I will be happy.
  13. From the report. Moisture meter readings were obtained along the underwater surface between 15% to 24% although the vessel had little time to dry out prior to inspection. The stern sections around the waterline - readings of between 12% to 15% were obtained – quite low considering that the vessel was lifted immediately prior to survey.
  14. The hull seems to be in a fair condition.
  15. It was amazingly clean and you are probably right about it being done recently. I am looking forward to it arriving next Tuesday. I will have an 1 1/2 journey from the slip to the marina and I will definitely get out on the weekends.
  16. Survey carried out today and all went well. It was interesting seeing the boat out of the water.
  17. That would be great. I had a look at the SPCC website but I think it has to be updated and some pages do not open. I will own a boat by the end of next week, so I should be OK for next May. :-)) The boat that I am getting is powered by a 10hp outboard. Do you think that is enough for the Thames? @Grassman. Sorry to hijack your thread.?
  18. I will take a look at the St Pancras club. Hope they let plastic boats join. :-)) I have a similar set of lenses with a D90, not used for a few years but I will be dusting them down for the new boating hobby.?
  19. What camera do you use and do you ever flick it into video mode. Just been looking at your blog. Amazing trips you have catalogued. I would love to do a trip like the Tideway trip that you have just put up.
  20. Hi Mike. It is just what I wanted. When it is in neutral you do have to look at the rev counter to see if it is still running. I must admit I thought it would be a bit louder considering it must be getting on in years. regards, Paul.
