  1. Mrsmelly - yes am thinking primarily of resale value
  2. Alan - yes I can definitely see the resemblance with Thistle.. the gas bottle locker on the foredeck.. perhaps you are right! In that case I would hope the plating spec for the one I'm looking at isn't 6/6/4 as Thistle's is. And about the engine, are you saying it might have belonged to a friend of yours? And yes Matty - would certainly get a survey
  3. Hi there, For dutch barges that are over 40+ years old, am I right to think you'd expect them to have needed overplating? And should I be careful about anything if buying one like this? I know a lot more about NBs than dutch barges :S
  4. Looking at a pretty, v trad 50 footer, with vintage engine and boatman's cabin - said to be built by a G. Derby in 1993. I have never heard of G. Derby or Derby Narrowboats. Can anyone on here lend their knowledge? https://www.venetianmarina.co.uk/used-narrowboats/details/4310.aspx this be she
  5. I know what I think of it, I like it. But am always happy to hear the opinion of someone who most likely knows better than I
  6. incredible, yes that's the one - I will get in touch with Leo. Thank you so much And what do you think of her yourself?
  7. Just have been totally unable to find any info on this guy as a builder.. thought there could be a supremely knowledgeable person on this forum
  8. Of course, if that was the case it'd be great - but surely it's easy to just say its like a H&L given their very high reputation. And yes will certainly get my own survey
  9. Am considering purchasing my second boat, and it is said to have been built in 1986 by someone called Harold Hart, by 'private engagement', in 'the style of Hancock & Lane'. The seller is a marina brokerage, and the boat looks in absolute tip-top condition inside and out with a glowing survey report from 2015. However, is there anything I should be considering with regard to this unknown builder? - Can't find any info on him at all. Thanks in advance for any help!
