Hi thanks for the comments, I know steel doors will be harder to break into ( providing you have a good locking system) but I just feel that the design of steel doors on barges is very poor and a throwback to the days of carrying coal in the holds etc. why would a boat be advertised as a live aboard with wooden front doors and then a couple of steel plates on the back without any frame, weather proofing, locking mechanisms and fit where they touch ?
That is my bug bear with boat builders, if you can fit front doors why can't you fit rear doors the same when designing a boat,as for security, yes they may be less of a invite to thieves, however you don't have steel doors on your house, most houses have wooden doors or UPV doors not steel
Boat builders need to get into the 21st century and offer something more practical and appealing to prospective live aboarders
