  1. Indeed it does. I have fitted a RudderSafe, which seems to have been a good if expensive investment, plus a full water bag and a couple of bags of pea shingle in the bow to help when cruising. Chris.
  2. Recommendations please for the best 'iPhone canal satnav'. You know what I mean: a sort of electronic Nicholson that wil run on a smartphone or tablet and show my position on the canal plus all the good stuff you get with Nicholsons guides. Thanks, Chris.
  3. Generally, for a small outboard-powered cruiser, the advice seems to be to approach the mooring very slowly, bow at 20 -30 degrees to the bank / pontoon, when bow is just off the mooring point put helm hard over away from mooring and use a little astern power to pull the stern into the bank / pontoon. Then step off with a line attached to a centre cleat in hand and secure the boat. Then attach the bow and sten lines and stow the centre line. Seems to work fine for me and my 23' cruiser.
  4. Exactly. When I recently bought my 1993 boat they were in the green but could have been there for years so, for my peace of mind, I replaced them. Keep the old ones at home as they probably will work.
  5. Yes, it does. So, if all else fails I still have that.
  6. Hi Jen. Thanks for that very clear and helpful advice. On checking, my boat has two domestic batteries wired as a single bank, the motor will start when either 1 or 2 or 'both' are selected. When I need to replace I guess it would be best to switch to 1 x domestic and 1x starter and wire accordingly. Thanks again. Chris.
  7. Just bought a 1993 Viking 23 with Mariner 15. On first test outing motor increases revs when helm hard over. Assume this is a throttle cable problem (remote throttle and gear control). Can anyone advise or direct me to a source of info. The relevant Seloc manual for the Mariner 15 does not cover maintenance on the remote control. Thanks. Chris.
  8. Can anyone tell me the specs for the two batteries fitted to a Viking 23 NB cruiser. The bost is new to me, currently fitted with 2 x 110 amp/hr batteties, one a Hankook XV110MF the other unbranded. The outboard motor will start when either 1 or 2 or 'both' are selected. I am unclear as to what the correct specs should be and whether they are connected correctly. A smart charger with shore power is installed. Thanks. Chris.
