  1. At the moment we have a perspex panel to keep the draft out when we have the side doors open. We are thinking of having a pair of glazed doors installed instead, which will open inwards against the side panels. Has anyone pictures of such doors and/or sources of such doors? Our existing wood is american light oak.
  2. Join NABO - the National Association of Boat Owners - to keep in touch with what consultations are live, or at least keep an eye on the website to see what's happening. You've just missed an opportunity to respond to a BW licence consultation.
  3. Can anyone point me in the direction of the bit that says that the current BW executives will be taking the relevant pay decreases in line with the new charity status (cf. the NT etc)? I haven't been able to find it yet That would be a substantial saving.

  5. Definitely worth looking outside to see if someone else's fire is smoking in your direction, and the gases (I know it's a CO monitor not a smoke alarm) are coming in your direction.
  6. We spent around 3 months on the BCN recently and blogged, as we do. We recorded a list of moorings with details of facilities and limits on this page. Gypsy Rover have also been blogging around the BCN for a similar time
  7. ...on Thursday afternoons, including Hart to Hart that used to sell the lovely original ginger bread. Morrisons' gbm aren't a patch on that delicacy.
  8. If they do, I can guess which on-line paper would announce it OTOH would they still be "telegraph" poles? I'll get me coat (it has just started raining at Audlem)
  9. And every reason to be too. That is a fantastic looking boat Gill. Can't wait to see it in the flesh. That must be per foot! You are joking aren't you? £1000 p.a at Audlem? Wow! Have you got a wheelbarrow for the water? As for the ice, young girls like you will be as safe as houses. We'll look out for the mooring on our way down on Friday or Saturday. If you're in the area, do pop across and see us. We hope to be around at Adderley or Audlem for the weekend, and hope the folk evening at the Shroppie Fly on a Monday is still going.
  10. We had one and a half shares (12 shares in all) of a JD Boats (Gailey) share boat for 5 years. We sold the shares for the same as we had paid for them, when we had Epiphany built
  11. I think you'll find the law on environmental issues is changing at a rate faster than at any time since the rivers were formed or the canals were built. Together with the litigious society we live in, regretably, I guess this is a necessity
  12. I'd give it two weeks, unless BW and the Councils work with the police on this. If it doesn't work because, like Borge Gush and Bony Liar, there is no planning about what to do after the war, then it will be another huge waste of BW and taxpayers money. I know which I'd put my money on. What we found most offensive around the BCN was the tags on signage. Now if BW invested in signs that had anti-paint surfaces, preferably with a chemical reaction that tagged the perpetrators, I would call that money well spent.

  14. Sorry to keep on recommending our website but we have a "Be Prepared to dial 999" link too!
  15. Arrived back in Birmingham today - see our blog entitled "The only visiting boat left in Birmingham?" I thought BW must have had a purge or it's the end of the world. Plenty of space. See you. Edited to add blog link
  16. Our Water Explorer/Navvygator log says it was 3 hrs 55 minutes from Hancock's Bridge to Eldonian Basin, including a 40 minute stop at the Litherland services for water, then 2 hours 13 minutes from Eldonian Basin to Salthouse Dock: net total 5 hours 28 minutes. On the return journey it was 3 hours 11 minutes from Salthouse Dock to Litherland Services, where we stayed overnight, then 2 hours and 6 minutes from Litherland to Hancock's Bridge the next morning: a total of 5 hours 17 minutes. Edited to add: Oh yes - as safe as you'll find in any bit of urban canal - only rumour will say it's unsafe. BW wouldn't promote it if H&S was an issue, now would they? Go for it. The more people who use it, the "safer" it's going to be :-)
  17. Fiona has diabetes and as a result of reading this thread has added a piece on our website's Medical Tips page, entitled "Living with Diabetes"
  18. Well that kills it dead in the water then. We've versions dating from 2000 (I think) and amend them as we go. My crew wanted to buy a new one recently but I vetoed the idea because the new one is still likely to be out of date. Can we not resurrect Greg's data and build on that?

  20. Nicholsons and Water Explorer and Navvygator on the laptop.
  21. Brilliant work both! "Someone" sent along a couple of angels today!
  22. I do hope everyone who has criticised the BW proposals will send in a response. No need to make it long - just clear! Here's the link to the announcement and hidden in the text is this: "Feedback If you would like to comment on the proposals changing the prompt payment discount, please send these to licencediscounts@britishwaterways.co.uk or by post to British Waterways Prompt Payment Consultation, 64 Clarendon Road, Watford, WD17 1DF before 28 February 2010."
  23. But hopelessly unreliable and inaccurate re moorings and facilities etc in our recent experience. Downloader Beware!
  24. If you have the white smoke problem, try disconnecting your fuel tank side of the pump (we just switch it off at the tank) and run it through 3-4 full cycles, making sure each completes. Obviously it won't start during those 3-4 cycles, but gradually the white smoke/steam will decrease each time thus purging the system. Then switch the fuel back on and try starting. As Barney said, Kings Lock Chandlery are great. But having serviced it out of the boat, Steve re-installed it and then used his laptop to tune it - and it has run better than ever. (Hope ours starts tomorrow now!)
  25. 5-1 just says "No Startup" - which you already know. I wonder if the troubleshooting section in this helps: http://www.techwebasto.com/heater_main/hea...ooting_Tree.pdf
