  1. Would it be worthwhile finding the boss of this outfit, and going to see him in person and having it out man to man?

  7. Old proverb (don't know where from) 'He who has a Tiger by the tail, can't let go'
  8. I agree whole hearted with these posts. Don't sell a house to live on a boat, as illness, age, and the uncertain future of the canal system, plus the certainty of increased costs are not something to look forward to. Keep the property, rent it out, or if your friend can afford it, keep it for storage. Get a bank loan for a boat,to live on, or buy a cheaper smaller boat and be a hobby boater, he can still live aboard in the summer and the house in winter. Having spent a winter aboard, one can very quickly lose your sense of humour!
  9. The all in one units will not comply with BSC rules. I had one for the garage, Chinese with no make on it, but it worked very well.Got it off the internet from a vendor called Maxspeeding Rods.
  10. Sorry, but I think Princes stuff is awful. The meatballs don't taste anything like meat, their meatpaste doesn't taste of anything, and their corned beef... is slimy and undercooked. Why not buy low fat mince, you can make lots of dishes with it.Mince onion, mash and carrots, curry, spag bol, spicy mince and rice, burger lots of possibilities.
  11. Perhaps that's what the vendor wants! Apart from a few enthusiasts, most experienced boaters wouldn't be interested in a wooden boat.
  12. The best dark mild I have had was Gravedigger Dark Mild by Church End Brewery. I have racked my brain but I can't remember for the life of me which pub I had it in.
  13. Has someone been using a Spanish Windlass on it?
  14. Accordng to the Wiltshire Times, CRT are having a 'purge' on the unlicenced and engineless 'shanty' camps on the K&A, much to the approval of the local residents.
  15. There is an inlet for the combustion air, which if it draws exhaust gases in they will be burned in the combustion chamber so will do no harm. The other air inlet is for the heater air which passes over the heat exchanger. This air inlet must not of course draw exhaust fumes. The inlet for this can be outside of the boat away from the exhaust, or it can be inside the cabin where the heated air will be re-circulated improving the heat output.
  16. If you can afford one, would a Reflex diesel stove be better for long term fuel storage?
  17. But memory dims with advancing age. It's a bit like a bucket of water, once full it overflows. I can remember my school days and college days quite clearly. Ask me what I was doing last week, and I would be struggling! Perhaps the Lady has forgotten.
  18. Load up the roof with what you think is enough, you and wife stand on the gunwale and give the boat a good rocking. If it turns turtle, you've put too much stuff on the roof. 😜
  19. The windows can be double glazed with polycarbonate or acrylic sheet held in place with magnetic tape or by gluing Velcro on the frame and around the edges of the plastic sheet.

  22. I found the pulpit rail on my boat a damned nuisance. Being always singlehanded the bow line was always under the rail when I wanted it above (when locking) and over the rail when I wanted it below (mooring up)

  24. Sounds a lot of expense for nothing gained really. You want a caravan next to a canal, so why not forget the caravan and simply live on the boat. You can't really get any closer to the canal than that. Have you a compelling reason for moving into a caravan?
