  1. No sorry the boats are not visable!, they were submerged just under the water 40 ago.
  2. Zenatoamm, you have put a large smile on my face I have always suspected that area was of some importance, I have been there today but can’t get near the edge due to brambles reeds and trees that have grown.
  3. The boats where in the middle of the reed beds, right of that dock, which is interesting, the marsh area behind is still there, the fields behind the hole were fam land until around 40years ago so access was restricted
  4. They are stuck on a concrete sleepers that was at hone end of an Brook inlet right by the bridge
  5. 2019?, bit of a long wait to get it dredged to make it safe to turn
  6. Think these people had zigzag problems on Sunday and missed the bridge on the Caldon Canal!
  7. Yes that’s the one, I live on the estate that borders the hole for the last 35 years and lived my childhood at a house just up the field from bridge 16 Northwood!. on the picture the trees are all mature and if you look carefully you can trace the outline of the larger winding hole.
  8. Ironside if your passing birches head check out how large the winding hole as it goes a large way back!, it’s like a small marina lol
  9. I say the sunken boats bow wood but taking 40 years ago to be honest lol, for years the front of the winding hole had a swans nest, so this might be why the hole was left to reed over!, but I did see them honest!, and no al Ironside if your passing birches head check out how large the winding hole as it goes a large way back!, it’s like a small marina lol
  10. Sorry not up on real terminology I thought they might have been old freight carrying boats, so called then barges but you may be right and they could have been narrow boats!
  11. Birches Head winding hole has been covered by reeds for as long as I can remember, years ago a friend and I had a rowing boat and tried to get to the centre of the reeds, not far into this adventure we struck a couple of bows of sunken barges. Does anybody have any history of barges being sunken back in the canals history?.
  12. No it was definitely 1976 the hot summer when I left school, we took it up the Thames to Swinford toll bridge . thank all of you for your comments concerning my inquiry on the whereabouts of the boat!.
  13. Somebody said they saw the boat around year 2000 with no wooden roof on near Milton Keynes!, so could have been rebuilt around that time.
  14. We picked up the boat from somewhere near Watford, so Milton Keynes is not that far away!. the boat was wooden so sounds like this could be the boat. I note for comments any am sorry if I over stepped the mark, if I had had more posts with Mark99 I might have taken his joke and not as a dig at me
  15. Thank for the info!, looks like it is that boat, I live by the cauldon canal and don't have a boat so sorry I misunderstood your post
