  2. Well I have one, so far recharged 4 18 volt dewalt batteries, 2x 2ah & 2x 4ah. All appeared to charge faster than when using a 230v charger
  3. Has anyone here got a DEWALT DCB119-XJ V XR IN-CAR MULTI-VOLTAGE BATTERY CHARGER. Most of my cordless equipment is DeWalt & I'm tempted to buy this 12v charger, I guess it'll take longer to recharge than a 240volt but they seem popular with builders etc. Any views before I part with my money?
  4. Do these 'Squatter' boats have to have BSS cert's,insurance and some form of licence ? & just don't want to pay mooring fees? or are they just living outside the Law?
  5. As in the title, I'm looking for a Thermostatic WALL Mounted bath/shower tap, any recommendations? I've seen This at £65 which looks like it'll do the job but if anyone can recommend one that they actually know works OK with the type of pressure we have onboard it will really be appreciated. It has to be wall mounted. Thanks.
  6. I wish to thank you for this thread, I'm shortly visiting the area and ,weather permitting, the dog and I shall attempt to walk the route.
  7. I know plenty of discussion has been had regarding the What3words app but just in case anyone's still in doubt From today Lincolnshire Police will be using an app to help them find people in an emergency more quickly.
  8. I have a pump similar to yours, the base of the pump clips off (for cleaning etc). On my boat there is a glass fiber 'box' directly under the stern gland and the bilge-pump Base is stuck down using Sikaflex, or similar. The pump should be wired directly to the battery using an appropriate fuse so it is always on. Hope this helps.
  9. I have recently completed a journey of nearly 300 locks mainly singlehanded. I am registered Disabled and in addition I am awaiting Rotator cuff surgery on both shoulders & only able to function with the aid of medication. I used my ratchet windlass daily, as most times (rather depending on med's) I was unable to wind the paddles through 360 degrees. Yes it is heavier to carry around especially climbing ladders in deep locks, but the disadvantages I my case far outweigh the assistance it offers. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend owning one in addition to the 'normal' lighter ones that I use to throw ashore to those wonderful people who go out of their way to aid a solitary boater .
  10. It is actually, at just over 17 meters I'm sort of thinking that as there's not much chance of my venturing onto unsuitable waterways in my narrowboat & as the IWA say ; 'Note theat visibility requirements: many narrow boats over 12m long are fitted with navigation lights that are not legal in this respect, as many boat builders and fitters unfortunately do not seem to know or care about the regulations. ', I think I'll go ahead and fit the mast. Funny enough I just found a set of battery powered lights I once used on an old wooden Folkboat we did a circumnavigation of the British Isles back in the 70's. They've still got the old (leaky) batteries in, so not really in working order anymore.
  11. That's exactly what I'm seeking advice on. Bear in mind the vessel is 57' x 6'10" with a 36hp motor is there anywhere on the 'inland waterways', non CRT waters I'm going to encounter a problem?

  13. I am aware of the regs & I know most narrowboat do not conform and actually don't need to, indeed I cannot recall seeing white stern lights fitted fitted on NBs as standard. My thinking is by not fitting port & starboard lights on the sides of the superstructure that's 2 less things to snag on lock sides trees etc.
  14. If it's blowing a gale stay put, navigating a long narrow boat in high winds is difficult enough but when single-handed I would advise to stay-put. Also I recommend using anti-slip (fine sand) on the roof and a step-down at the stern. Without a crew, in a lock it's a lot easier to step onto the roof rather than use any steps set into the wall.
  15. I'm wondering whether to fit a Folding Stainless Steel Navigation Light Mast rather than the traditional port - starboard white masthead. For one thing it'll save a bit of wire & even those boats which have Nav lights fitted they seldom have a stern light and don't really conform to reg's. The mast in the link for example is only about 18" which fold down flat to the deck. Whilst I don't actually own a mast but do have a set of trad'lights ready to fit I'm sorely tempted to fit one of these. My NB is 57' any & all opinions very welcome.
  16. I actually carry a small trumpet like 'Horn' which you can give a good blast with (provided you've got the puff) left over from my 'Yotti' day
  17. My boat is yet to be fitted-out with no lighting etc.I didn't fancy the Harecastle Tunnel on my own with only a Lidl head-torch
  18. I'm doing the shroppie now Audlem flight tomorrow. Only real problem (so far) was dropping my phone into the cut at Stockton.
  19. bloody hell I'm sure i passed that yesterday.
  20. Thank's everyone, I've got some fertan on board somewhere so I'll splodge it on
  21. I suspect from the OP's comments he wants a houseboat bot not intending to move much. I would suggest he/she look to buy a Dutch Barge and look to professional boat builders of that type. It's an awful lot of money to spend without knowing where he is going to moor the thing.
  22. Hi Tony yep it' definitely DV36ME, I'm afraid I've lost my phone in the cut but I'll see if I can dig some out . It's 3 cylinder and shows the 'stop-lever' in the Bukh Workshop Manual DV36/48 section H label 13. The top solenoid is fitted just forward of the stop-lever. Funnily enough, this Workshop Manual does not show the solenoid but my other Bukh manual covering all the range DV10-48 does. I'm just happy it's there TBH
  23. Well I spent the day cleaning, testing and renewing all the connectors I can find. I've got a handy bit of bailing twine attached to tug when I want the engine stopped. I cannot get over the price of replacement so a 'proper job' with an old choke cable is defiantly the answer.
  24. Unfortunately I am solo at the moment as my wife is busy working. I've actually narrowed it down to a knackered stop solanoid sso at the moment I'll have to turn it off manually for the rest of this trip. Also the ignition switch itself is a bit sus so I'm in the market now for a BUKH Stop Solenoid & replacement ignition switch. Hopefully there's an equivalent as Bukh prices are off the scale.unbelievable £300 eeeeeek
