  1. Drat, I should have read this thread before repairing and repainting the tail end of my cockpit hatch, cream with blue edging, my first real attempt at outside painting.  After masking and painting the blue edging i removed the masking tape after a few hours when the paint appeared almost dry on a warm sunny day. Unfortunately the blue had crept minutely under the tape edge and left a slighly ragged appearance instead of a nice clean line even after I thought I had pressed the edge of the tape down firmly prior to painting.  I,ll assume it was the masking tape quality maybe at fault unless anyone can enlighten me.  As I said, I,m a novice at painting, but an advocate of " a man on a galloping horse wont notice it " !

We are Aldi converts, with two kids and one income it offers us huge savings. £70 a week for the four of us, including babies nappies and wipes.

Most of the food is bang on, mainly organic and always good quality, Importantly,  the Toro organic Red wine is easy to drink as well.

The only thing I am not a fan of is the amount of plastic they use. I tend to leave what I can with them but if they took the lead and went plastic-free it would be damn near perfect.

I,m back into UK and aboard Alchemy next week. I,ll be straight into Aldi to stock up. Looking forward to my hotcross buns, pikelets, stilton, and Aldis strong Vintage Cider.   Ah summer time, I can smell it now ! Hope I dont blink and miss it.

My 1820 antique table was built to eat dinner off, but at the moment there is a laptop and a laser printer sitting on it. Am I going to have to put them on the floor?

I bought an antique tall slim vase stand. It now sits neatly in my engine room by my rear step. A perfect narrow stool for the missus inside my trad stern and really handy step for mounting the cabin top in when locking.

I don't cycle, and fishermen always seem miserable.

They smile when they leave home and set up their tackle, freedom !  Then as pack up time approaches the faces droop with the setting of the sun. Got to go home again back to the nag.

Three squaws in a teepee.  One had two children and the others only had one child each. Those two were sat on goat skins and the squaw with the two kids was sat on a hippopotamus rug.

Which just goes to show that the squaw on the hippopotamus hide is equal to the sum of the two squaws on the other two hides.

I went to the doctor's for recurring strange dreams. Sometimes I dreamt I was a wigwam, other times I was dreaming I was a teepee. Doc says I,m too tense !

  7. I use an O2 dongle. £23/month for 40GB. I stick it on the front door side window, behind the tv, with Bluetack, and the charging lead feeds from behind the tv in the front stbd side cupboard. It covers the full length of my 60'. It seems to pick up coverage in most of my cruising area and marina. When I go off the boat for weekends etc I just unplug it and pull it off the glass and take it with me. Seems to work fine.

  8. Continuing on this in the hope that spring will soon be sprung and the grass is ris, i wonder where the birdies is ?   A report last week from France mourning the demise of many types of local countryside birds has been attributed to insecticides killing off all the insects that the birdies eat. Good old Froggy farmers. They probably get EU subsidies on the pesty pesticides. But could it be the same thing happening in UK too?

I too applaud your efforts, but fail to see why inviting relations around causes you to tie your leg to the wardrobe.

When our relations visit, they sleep neither in the wardrobe or the same bed, but get their very own room. :)

Sorry but its a man,s joke, in a similar vein to tying a 4×2 across his buttocks. I hope I dont have to elaborate further, I blush easily !

  10. She has a 3 ft bed and I have a 1ft bed. I think hers may be a tad wider to hold her ipad , hp, torch, tissues, eyeshades, earphones, clock and handbag.  I lie on my side and my big nose and my feet stop me rolling out.   Occasionally if we have relations, i take extra precautions.  I tie my leg to the wardrobe !

I suspect if anything was going to put of a cleaner it's probably not cleaning the boat its self but where your boat might be moored - out of town or a muddy towpath. Someone already living on a boat might be a better bet.

I'm getting quite busy at work these days and don't have much time for cleaning. I actually wouldn't mind getting someone in for a couple of hours every fortnight to dust surfaces and hoover the floor. With the stove on over winter it tends to get a bit dusty and I can't bear hoovering. My cabin area is 40' x 12' so quite a big space.

I wonder how many house cleaners who put ads in newsagents windows would consider cleaning the inside of a boat?

Nothing wrong with the idea. I,m sure theres plenty need the money and a boat isnt so big a cleaning job inside.  Marinas may be better placed to offer a cleaning service. Whats the going rate ?

Before you play the reverse snobbery card, perhaps you might consider whether some other piece of electronic equipment might be more suitable for you?

I was merely saying I find it problematic to read posts where I have to filter out all the noise before I can get to the meaning. It's nothing personal. I had no choice in the schools I attended, and I'n no snob just because I benefited from a decent (state) education. Nobody (except you) is talking about banning anyone.

Please dont bother filtering my noise and we,ll both be happier.

Glass bottles/glasses are better from an environmental point of view, but too often used as weapons. That is one reason why plastic vessels became popular in some areas (other reasons are available.)

I was reading recently about a geezer in Cumrbria who was into developing plastic roads, after seeing them in a third world country. Seems that the recycled plastic is made into granules and mixed into bitumen.

Its an idea of mine too for my 2nd home in indonesia, drowning in plastic waste. Shred or pulverise plastics and mix it into either tarmac or low grade concrete construction. Polystyrene foam can be broken up and mixed into low grade building bricks, reduces weight and improves insulation. I,ve an idea plastic bottles n bags can be heat pressed together to form translucent sheeting for roofing in 3rd world environs. Where theres a will theres a way !

    and your spelling, apparently!

But as the writer isn't it your job to make the reader's task as easy as possible, not yours?

Why are you so frigging picky about me ?   Havent you got anything better to discuss or complain about ?  Do I upset you personally in anyway ?  I have a tiny touch sensitive screen and failing eyesight. Would you like to ban me from participating because i,m not up to your exacting standards?   Jeez theres some snobs on here arnt there ?

Sorry but I agree with the OP,  I too am p!seed off with n@bbers dumping crap on the tow path and making it hard to walk past.

It's only the 1% that do it but when they do it they do take the piff.

I feel like a tramp when moor next to them.

(Weird thing is their normally really easy to talk too and quite nice) lol

Its better than living in a house with horrible heighbours, at least boaters can cast off and move along.

£50 for a minimum of 8 hours hard graft!? I paid £140 to have a 70 footer washed and waxed, he did it in around 2.5hrs and it looked orrible!

Polish guys in sainsbury,s near me charge £10 per car. I reccon my 60' is about 5 cars worth when i clean it, it feels like i,ve done 5 cars anyway. So £50 seems ok.  I suppose thats why the Poles didnt want to do it and nor the kid sleeping in the shop doorway.  Looks like i just saved myself £50. Time to get the bucket n sponge out. And the horse linament !

  16. Maybe put a notice up in a local marina. I often thought a boat valetting service would be viable. I hate washing and waxing my 60'  but thats only because age makes my back n shoulder ache for days after. But i,m sure within a full marina there would be some part time boaters would love to turn up and find her gleaming from stem to stern and pay maybe £50 for it.
