Pause for thought......
When revving the engine out of gear .no black smoke ....
In gear at 1200 rpm onwards increases in black smoke.....
Surely if timing pump problems it would smoke the same in and out of gear....
The engine mounts are set up for the old engine .......if this new block has been placed directly onto the engine mounts but no realignment done would this cause any problems . The prop does rotate by hand but if slightly out would it explain.????
Would it smoke the same out of gear the as much as does in gear......my non mechanical brain says it should?????
Any thoughts ???
I purchased the engine . However the head on the engine was not good so they used my cylinder head.....my head had new valve guides and seals. So i dont know if thepump was redone.....i am guessing not . So apologies for not thorough explanation.....it has been an ordeal. Icould have got a new engine by the time its sorted
I bought the engine in good faith off a friend . Nightmare to say the least
Beyond me . They just relocated it back on to the engine mounts and reconnected the prop . But as far as i know as to whetherit was aligned i have no idea
Thankyou for your reply. Some folks are saying over fueling and others oil burning ....so at a loss... it does tickle smoke at low revs but assumed an old engine
Hello advice needed. Ive just had a perkins 4108 rebuilt. On start up it gives white smoke....once up to temp it clears with just a bit of normal exhaust smoke.....however in gear as you pass 1200 rpm to 1800 it gives black smoke....
The boat engineer is coming to check as it has an oil leak behind the timing cover plate. Any advice or ideas please
The accumulator is a 5 ltr also the expansion vessel is the same
I have the accumulator is set to 2 psi below the pump cuto in. And the expansion is set to 28 psi. Just slightly above pump cut out pressure.
Expansion vessel is on the hot side about 6 feet away from calorifier. Only place as calorifier is situated on the swim
The expansion vessel is first in line via tee.
The calorifier is a sure just 55ltr twin. However I've just installed a lpg water heater as the webasto takes ages to heat up. Hot showers are a must.
Hello. How close should the accumulator be to the pump? At the moment I have a whale pump then water filter then a 5 ltr accumulator vessel/tank. Does the accumulator need to be adjacent to the water pump?
Cheers
OK. Let's say voltage is 12.70 and smartgauge is reading 100% on a beautiful hot summers day. Then pretty much it's all lovely. Now say it's down to 33 degrees f on a winters day. How will said voltage be affected, is it drastic or negligible. Quite a lot of difference of opinion. Through various Internet based views.
The control is a Teleflex single lever control. It has the friction control set via a small allen key. However the friction is all the way in and still it slips back when lowering revs. I have to either disengage or add revs to neutralise the slip.
Setting correctly to get best performance and its the setting im struggling with.
Update on the injectors. Had them replaced and no smoke. The old ones were in a terrible state to say the least. It smokes only at full tilt. But right up to 1950 revs it's clean, just a lovely sounding engine. Also no sludge from exhaust. My last post was regarding my trojan batteries and they are performing great gun's.
