  1. I suspect the same scenario regarding a house I looked at earlier in the year . Very disappointing . On the plus side the survey on the house cost me less than a survey on a boat , and it didn't need to be craned out.
  2. http://www.yyachtinsurance.com/ I would not consider your policy if it requires a license to be held continuously as I have not in recent years licensed the boat all year and want it to be insured while ''off water''. PS Not to mention I do want to be able to go on lumpy water occasionally .
  3. Not so unless specifically stated in the insurance policy and conditions. My insurance doesn't require a BSS certificate.
  4. Aquavista Watersides Limited Head office is at Sawley marina and is company that has been in existence several years . British Waterways Marinas Limited changed its name to Aquavista Watersides Limited in July of this year . Those are links if you ask me . But accepting C&RT no longer own the company that runs the marinas. Not sure who owns the marinas but fairly sure the business occupies Hull as tenant and would expect that to apply generally.
  5. However the BSS test is very poor at doing that .as it doesn't require the idiot to be present during the test.
  6. By the way . I have visited Hull Marina several times and may have been asked for the name of my insurance company but certainly haven't been asked for evidence of a BSSC. The company the owns Hull Marina , Aquavista , appears to be simply the new trading name for BWML?
  7. That's a very good analogy . I agree it's not a car park owners responsibility to check MOT or insurance is valid . The same applies to a boat park . I imagine the car park owner / boat park owner has insurance that protects them without needing the owner to check paperwork for every boat that comes and goes .
  8. All our marina asks for is money.
  9. Do you think being in possession of a BSSC proves a boat is safe to moor near other boats in a marina setting?
  10. I expect every marina has boats within it that have expired BSSc's or are awaiting corrective action having had issues discovered during a BSS examination . What are the potential consequences for the marina according to the relevant terms that insurance ?
  11. I have never been asked for a copy of BSS certificate by the marina where I keep my boat (I have had a mooring there 12 years). I can imagine that marinas such as Kings and Hull which are or were owned by C&RT (British Waterways) might have an interest in whether a BSSC is held .
  12. By the way ....... why is the marina asking for the BSS certificate ?
  13. If you log onto your account on the C&RT website you should be able to see the BSS certificate number and expiry has been entered against your boat details . You could then supply the marina with the BSS certificate number. Failing that being acceptable send an email to customer services at C&RT and I expect they will be able to verify the certificate expiry date.
  14. Well done . I don't like to imagine what the outcome would have been without involvement from you and your neighbour. Sounds like you did save his life.
  15. One boat I thought overpriced has sold . But it may have sold for less than asking. Two others also asking ambitious prices have stuck despite both being very nicely presented . But who knows - they may sell as there is not much choice out there. I do wonder if there will be some boat price inflation - but it will be short lived.
  16. Which could be sooner rather than later given the time of year.
  17. Seems like job creation scheme. I expect leaving the material in-situ but redistributed is done to save the cost for removing the material off site, which would be prohibitive.
  18. On the Trent at Stoke Bardolph they have dredged a channel and deposited the material in the middle of the river . I guess it has ensured future work as the almost inevitable flooding to come may well put it back where it was. At least they have done something even if it seems not very good value .
  19. I don't particularly like fishists as a group having occasionally received some verbal abuse for no good reason from time to time. But not this year - not sure why that would be. Those who fish opposite the marina entrance shouldn't be surprised they are disturbed by boats . Even worse are those who attempt to fish next to the large sign at the marina entrance.... the sign that indicates fishing is prohibited .
  20. The River Trent has been in decline since Alan moved his boat to Wales. Increased fees and declining standards are hardly a recipe for success.
  21. Could electric car parts be used to put together a suitable conversion? I expect there are used parts from accident damaged / scrapped cars already available and such things will become even more available as electric cars become common. The lithium batteries , even if reduced in performance due to age might be suitable on a canal boat where the weight is much less of an issue compared to the requirements for a car. Therefore using used/reconditioned parts maybe a conversion to electric propulsion could become more economical in the future?
  22. The manifold and rocker cover look different to the OP's .
